mm I don´t know...
maybe braids dont lets you get a lot of creatures, so the oppo is useless

By Doppelganger on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 04:34 pm:

I've gotta agree with Eldain.. Braids keeps taking away you're creautres, so Opposition isn't going to work well unless you've got more than 1 Squirrel Nest in play, and you only have 2 in the deck. It just looks like it takes too long to set itself up.. Just my thoughts.

By Guapeton on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 05:08 pm:

double blue, black and green cc spells... the deck has colour screw written all over it...

By The_hippy on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 08:12 pm:

Braids might be ok , once youe got the game locked down , I'd run one maybe , dropping the rest for fact or fictions. With the whole madness mechanic going on , rats might be a little risky - I'd swap them for odalian zombies to held of all those damn elephant tokens. Why not swap your pain lands for the tainted lands , and run a few more swamps. Also I'd consider swapping the memory lapses for disrupts. Nice idea though

I don't think you should run 4 braids mabye two three at the most. You might want to consider adding more squirell nest so you have something more to sack for braids. I agree with some of the stuff the hippy sais.By the way i like the idea.

The person using the name 'Eldain' should try to learn how to write first.
There is only one Eldain on BDominia, and that is me.

I really like the concept of the deck. Braids is good with opposition, squirrel nest is good with braids, and opposition is good with squirrel nest. The deck could also run shadowmage infiltrator. I don't think static orb is necessary, or even effective. The only problem is the mana, which is awful. Given the current lands legal in type two, the mana is not going to workable.

The idea for the deck seems cool. I pretty much agree with Aaron. I see a good chance for this deck to be good if their are some more ggod cards in the new set.

agree with Who cares and Aaron... and Guapeton...

Summary: good synergy, but please consider mana issues!!!

I'd drop Undermine for Syncopates

I'd drop the llanowars altogether because you almost never need green mana AND you've got only 11 green land sources, you don't want to have to mulligan every hand with no green (will be the case if 8 of your (critical) one drops are green), they could be replaced by a couple lands (21 is tight with 4 mana creatures (and no 3 balanced colors cannot be sustained by a llanowar-birds manabase, if you wanted to keep this spirit you'll have to make green the main color and cut either double blues or double blacks)) and a chromatic sphere and a Nest...

I'd even test the deck with bounce for counterspells... (better against agro AND you're not a permission deck (8 counters is enough for a tactic that has about 11 must counter by now...)) and bounce combines well with braids... (end of turn: bounce your creature (might even be a token); my turn: braids; your turn sac a land-forced to play something (or slowly lose all lands); my turn: opposition or nest...)

If you run bounce, you might want to fit in mesmeric fiend in order to do the fiend-bounce-in-responce trick...

My list:

4 Braids Cabal Minion
3 Squirrel Nest
3 Opposition
2 Static Orb

4 Birds of paradise
2 Chromatic Sphere

4 Ravenous Rats
4 Memory Lapse
4 Syncopate
4 Duress
3 Rushing River
2 Mesmeric Fiend

3 Salt Marsh
1 Underground River
4 Yavimaya Coast
3 Llanowar Wastes
3 Swamp
3 Island
5 Forest

With less mana requirements, less permission and more tempo elements (which is what braids and orbosition are all about anyway...)

In the matchups you still have the braids autowin (although it is less likely to hit on turn 3 (but on the other hand, more likely to stick (with fiends and rushing river)))... You still have the Orbosition lock (with more creatures though) and more squirrel's nests (the other combo card capable of winning the game alone (against psy for example))...

The deck has become aggro-cluster-lock instead of permission-cluster-lock...

You could say the philosophy has switched from:

"counter and wait until I can place/force through one of my many locks..."

"try to put myself in a favorable position early to place one of the locks"

Due to the very tempo oriented composition of the very locks you are trying to achieve (Braids turn ten? Orbosition is always good, so this one is not definitive), I think this is the way to go, try it...

Just tossing builds around!

The problem with the fiends is that if u sac them to braids ur opponent gets their card back...

By shadetree on Monday, March 11, 2002 - 12:45 pm:

but, if you don't get braids, fiend still works with oppo, also, since you know what the card is, you don't sac the fiend unless you don't care if they get that card back any more, say, they don't have the lands to cast it any more. that is why there is only 2 fiends, and 4 rats in the list though, because of the interaction with braids. this looks like a very effective build to me, but i always wonder why peeps don't use the city of brass any more with 3 color decks - except for worries about oppo, seems like a great mana fixer to me.
