Ow! screamed Minosi as Telipi gave her a shot. That hurt!
"Sorry." Telipi replied. "We must make sure you survive to fulfill your destiny."
"You sound like my mother. Minosi mumbled.
"What was that?" Telipi replied, completely sincerely. A quick kick to the stomach by Minosi told him that was the wrong thing to say. "I just want you to be healthy. Is there anything wrong with that?" Another quick kick told him that was wrong too.
"I don't need any shots. I've been as healthy as a dracolord from the day that I was born. I never even get a common cold."
Telipi ignored her. "One last shot."
"That's as big as the letheronoch itself!" Minosi shrieked, and started to pummel him with blows, sometimes landing in sensitive areas.
"Okay, but if you ever get sarquonis almartis vinger, don't blame me."
"I've never even heard of that." she replied, without a hint of a whine in her voice.
Just then, an officer stepped into the room. "I have a message for Telipi. You are instructed to burn it after you read it. He exited while Telipi opened it.
"What is it?"
"I have to go. You can spend this time doing whatever you want. That's an order from your superior." He said this with a perfectly straight face, not realizing how silly it sounded. In his haste to leave, he forgot to burn the paper. Minosi picked it up.
You are needed in the white tower. Go directly to the throne room. You are being held responsible for the deaths of three students, all of the highest power of the gift.
Minosi stared in horror. Telipi? It couldn't be. But there was the note, with Autumn Gaeanewt's seal. Minosi had one thought.
Minosi slunk quietly through the giant pillars of the Throne Room. She had used up her gift for the day, so that no one would catch her, but she was still terrified. She was catching segments of the conversation, but nothing important. Only the occasional "and", "or", or "but", but she was planning on getting much closer. All of a sudden, she was grabbed from behind. She was hefted on the huge shoulders of a prison guard. "Come with me." he said, and she didn't have much choice. She was led to the throne. "I found this one slinking behind the pillars. I think she was trying to hide." Telipi was glaring at her.
"I see. Leave her with me.", Autumn hissed in his high, snakelike voice.
"I can explain" Minosi started to stammer, then realized it was futile. She had two sets of eyes looking down at her. Neither held compassion. "Damn!", she swore, not realizing. The two pairs of eyes still stared.
Autumn broke the silence. "Do you have any idea how much trouble I must go through now? I have to kill the guard so he won't talk, and if word does get out, I'll have to make you, the chosen, Scrub floors with the common maids. So much"
Autumn stopped then, because that was when he died. Of an arrow through the heart. When Minosi and Telipi turned around to see who it was, they had one unison thought.
