INTRODUCTION:
(If this is not the first time you read a "The Seriously Casual Series: ..." thread, skip the introduction)

"The Seriously Casual Series: ..." is a series of threads which introduces some of my more successful multiplayer-decks. However, "successful" does not neccessarily equal "winning". From my point of view Magic is a social game in the first place. As such I try to build decks as funny to play against as to play with. Of course there are as many definitions of "fun" as ways to abuse Necro. Here is what I and my playing group would define "fun":

We enjoy playing unusual cards or using commonly used cards in unusual ways. That does not mean that we do not use staples or power cards, but we do not abuse power cards to the fullest. We do try to win games but "making the deck work" is more important.

What we don´t find funny:
Killing everyone with infinite-whatever-combos. Taking 15-minute-turns. Using no-brainers like Overrun or Coat of Arms. Making someone watching the game incapable of doing anything (Armageddon, Stasislock). Overuse of endless repitions of CIP-effects or similar annoyances. Playing extremely unsocial cards like Gravepact.

These are no official rules and they are bend sometimes by common sense. Additionally I have my own style of play and deckbuilding: I mostly build theme decks, but my themes are related to game mechanics instead of creature types or movie titles. For example, I created a deck called "Was mich nicht tötet, härtet mich ab", a german expression that means "What doesn´t kill me makes me tougher". It packed Scars of the Veteran, Fungusaur, Reverse Damage, Respite, Sentinel, Sworn Defender, Living Artifacts and so on. I love flexible cards and tend to build nearly highlander decks, increasing it´s flexability.
These decks do not win more often than other decks because they need time to evolve. They have a very high proportion of synergy which is their greatest strength and weakness by the same time because they get only slowly stronger. Really successful (winning) decks start out harmless and kill in a flashpoint of 1 to 3 turns. Usually my decks do give my opponents a chance to stop them.
That´s social play for me.

NOTE: I am playing since Revised/Fallen Empires and my collection is rather large including many power cards such as Moxes. However, I almost never build decks around super-expensive cards and most of the older cards I use can be replaced by newer ones. Since my decks tend to be highlander anyways you´ll have no problems when you rebuild them. Just up the count of a similar card instead. This will work almost every time. I do not proxy cards and if I do not have more copies of a specific card I turn on my brain and add another, similar card. This leads me to new card combinations and forces me to try out cards that I did not use before. For example I own only one Sylvan Library. When I needed more for other decks I tried out Preferred Selection and were quite satisfied. Fight the laziness in your head and drop in some anarchy.

The decks I post are fine-tuned and I do not intent do modify them unless a new card seems to be the perfect card for this deck. You may still suggest some card additions but realize that I do not post the decks to optimize them, I do post them to share the fun I had with them and to foster some discussions about "adult" casual/multiplayer deckbuilding and gaming.

All this does also mean that you will play very interesting and balanced games if all players use decks from these series. One player building all decks is always a thrilling variant for the bored.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the 6th part of the “Seriously Casual Series”. Todays´ deck is one of my special theme oriented ones and called “TU WAS !!!”, that is “DO SOMETHING!!!”. It happened to me several times that all these dudes hiding behind their defences and hoarding instants annoyed me. At that time I had the urge to play with Fool´s Tome, don´t ask me why, probably because I am a fool. However, when Mind Swords got printed I realized that I could combine these:
Result is a deck that can and should play it´s cards right of the top of your deck, as soon as you draw them. No waiting for combo pieces, no building up of counterwalls, no Kindergarten! Just straight on punishment for the wary. Players like Krichaiushii with a more chaotic approach to the game will love it, control freaks will frown in disgust. Cause playing very aggressively would be suicide in multi this deck features some “encouragements” for other players to do it like you: Doing something every turn.

DO SOMETHING !!!
Format: Doesn´t matter. Just be careful in Team or Emperor games.

SOME CARD CHOICES:
Impatience, Antagonism, ?, Power Surge: My way to encourage you to DO SOMETHING! Doesn´t matter what, just do it! “?” is that enchantment that deals 2 damage to a player that does not attack during his turn.

Mind Swords: For the guys who still want to play their own game and hold back cards.

Fool´s Tome, Well of Life, Well of Discovery: While others get punished for doing nothing you reward yourself for playing ahead and tapping out.

Carrionette, Goblin Gardener, Highway Robber, Cackling Fiend: These dudes can be played whether someone has an Abyss is out or not, they will do their purpose either way, and sometimes the body itself may hurt a little, too. These creatures just don´t care about board situations.

Ogre Shamane: Turns every card into useful ones. At least you are doing something!

Necrosavant: Squeeze something more out of bodies like Highway Robber. Also a good mana dump.

Rackling: Too bad that Spirit Link is white.

DECKBUILDING NOTES AND GAMEPLAY
The deck was meant to be purely fun oriented. It should encourage all players to beat the crap out of each other without planning any further than one turn. I left cads like Cursed Scroll out on purpose because it makes me a too big target. Cursed Scroll screems “This deck is meant to operate at zero cards, stop me now or lose!” whereas cards like Elkin Lair say “Hey, don´t be so boring, let´s have some fun”, or “just be glad that I am an Elkin Lair and not a Bottomless Pit”. Of course Elkin Lair is still better for you than Pit because your cards are there for playing them straight. But as long as your opponents agree on your “casualness” they won´t gang up on you.

Gameplay notes? Ahhm, let´s see. What would Nike say? Just do it. Really, I said all that is important. Maybe save your Demonic Tutor for Disk. And always remember: This game is yours! They have to play your game, every attempt to build up another strategy is a stupid attempt to disobey you. Punish them!

That´s it for now. I will be happy about any comments and I will answer all questions if I have the time to do so. If you copy and play the deck, please let us know your experiences!

Magic can be as funny and exciting as you want.

No Spellshock?! Granted, it would inevitably zap you, too, but it is such fun with Impatience!

The enchantment you question is certainly not Total War, but that has some fun possibilities, as well - maybe not in this deck, but still...

use angels trumpet!:)

Well, I still want to have a chance to win some games and although my decks are somewhat whacky they don´t have to be all-whacky. I just wanna say that Spellshock will hurt myself a lot and in opposite to the other cards I use I can hardly work around this one. It also somewhat contradictes the theme of the deck.
Angels Trumpet, however, looks good, at least on paper. The questions is if that non-tapping part turns out to be benefical or disadvantegous.

The closest I could find is Season of the Witch. It has an upkeep of 2 life...at the end of each player's turn, all untapped creatures that could have attacked but did not are destroyed. Cannot prevent or re-direct the loss of life during upkeep.

I am not sure it is worth including since the deck does not have much life gain.

Dark Suspicions, Brink of Madness, and Citadel of Pain are interesting alternatives...

Puschkin,

I am pretty sure Season of the Witch was not what you were thinking of...did you ever find the name of the enchantment that "“?” is that enchantment that deals 2 damage to a player that does not attack during his turn."?

By Puschkin, Defiant Vanguard Against The Phyrexian Invasion (Puschkin) on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 - 01:34 pm:

Hm, I am sure that there was a red enchantment in Urza block that reads "A player who did not attack with at least 1 creature recieves 2 damage". The real wording should be different, of course. I will use Keldon´s Twilight from Planeshift now.

Dark Suspicions and Brink of Madness look interesting. Citadel of Pain is there: Power Surge. I do prefer originals.
