I have Goblin Fesitval in play. How does the stacking work if I pump, say 20 mana into it, in a multiplayer game, and I lose say, half the tosses?

I think if I pump the 20 mana in, I'm still going to get ten potential stings at 1 per sting, depending on if I flip my way or not. But when does the Festival move, when does the new owner get to put flips on the stack, etc.

Goblin Festival
Color= Red Type= Enchantment Cost= 1R UD(R)
Text (UD): {2}: ~this~ deals 1 damage to target creature or player. Flip a coin. If you lose the flip, choose one of your opponents. That player gains control of ~this~.

If you activate this multiple times in a row so the stack has more than one of this ability on it, the abilities will still resolve even if Goblin Festival leaves play or leaves your control before they resolve. For example, if you use the ability twice, and after the first flip you lose control of it because you lost the toss, or it leaves play because it is Disenchanted, then you still flip for the second ability. [Urza's Destiny FAQ 1999/05/25]

The controller of the ability chooses one of his or her opponents. If this card changes controllers before the ability resolves, you still pick an opponent of the player who controlled it when it was activated. [DeLaney 1999/06/13]

It's probly opponent, otherwise you would gain the Festival back...

It's similar to Phy. Infilrtrator. You target one of your own creatures, and then one of your opponent's in respose. When it goes off:
Your opponent gets Infiltrator and you get their creature.
Your opponent gets the wimp of yours you selected and you get Infiltrator back.
Regardless of the fact that the Infiltrator left your control.

It doesn't work quite the same though. Infiltrator allows you to switch the controller of two creatures. This card simply gives control to an opponent of the controller. It does NOT specify the controller of the permanent; rather it refers to the controller of the effect. If you activate it repeatedly, you will control all the effects, so you will never get it back unless the opponent plays the ability.

Part of the original question was never answered. You lose control of the card the first time you lose a flip, as part of the resolution of that effect. However the remaining activations already on the stack will of course still resolve.

Greziger: why is this wrong?

If you put 10 activations on stack, starting from the last activation, as soon as one flip is lost, the rest of the activations are fizzled.

The reason is that it is under opponent's control now and you can not activate opponent-controlled abilities normally.

By Gzeiger (Gzeiger) on Tuesday, February 05, 2002 - 03:11 am:

You cannot play an ability an opponent controls. However, the ability has already been played. Having lost control of the permanent that generated the effect does not prevent the effect from happening any more than destroying the source would. Any remaining effects on the stack resolve normally, but will fail to switch the enchantment's controller.

Take this hypo. I am playing a multiplayer free for all game A, B, and C (who are at 4, 4, and 3 life respectively). I have have Goblin Festival in play and I stack 10 points of damage with it (by useing 20 mana). What happens if I kill the player who I have selected to receive Goblin Festival. Does it stay with me?

By Gzeiger (Gzeiger) on Tuesday, February 05, 2002 - 04:36 pm:

As we noted above, Goblin Festival will switch controllers as part of the resolution of a damage-dealing ability, which means before a player dies from that ability. The other player will already control the Festival, so whatever rule governs this situation in your play group would apply, either reverting to your control or being destroyed or removed from the game when its controller dies.
