Mine was probably 7 dual lands for a Leviathan.
a buddy of mine remembers trading a beta Black Lotus and a Mox for a Shivan Dragon and a Craw Wurm. Granted, this was back when magic was new and moxes were junk rares.

The worst sale I ever made was 2 mint revised Birds of Paridise, 2 mint chronicles cities of brass, 1 mint BB hammer of bogarden, and 2 mint BB balduvian hordes for $30. I hadn't played magic for about 8 months and not until did i learn that the value of BoPs had shot up from about $7 to $15-20.

my worst trade was when tangle wire first came out. i thought it was a crap rare and no one was using yet. i gave it away as a throw in in a trade.
i once got a morphling for driving to a fast food place for a kid who wasn't old enough to drive. it was only a mile down the road. i did that a second time for a bb vamp tutor. it was the same kid that i gave the tangle wire to a few months earlier. i ended up getting him back.
I just recently made a bad trade. It was not my worst ever, but it was bad enough to be remembered. I was desperate to get Adarkar Wastes and Meddling Mages. I traded with the owner of a card store.

I got: 4 Adarkar Wastes (White bordered) and a Meddling mage.
I don't know what other people think of the trade, but I think that it was a bad decision. But I did really need those cards.

And I traded a Cursed Scroll for 3 hypnotic specters.
Other than that, most of my deals have usually been at least reasonable on the surface 9no more than a couple of bucks worth of swing)
My best deal that I can remember was a $5 cdn rare (may have even been paladin en-vec but I think was a bit better, maybe void) for a FOIL wasteland, which I sold a soon as I found out what they were going for.
This trade didn't actually happen to me, but a friend of mine was urgent for money to fix his car that day, so he sold his deck with 20 duel lands, 4 force of wills and some other cool stuff for $40!
My personal best trade was a unlimited vesuvan doppleganger for a foil promo serra angel.

Ah, back in the day when we had no idea what rarity meant... I traded 1 Time Vault and 2 Sinkholes for 1 Craw Wurm and 1 Drain Power... Several years later, I traded 1 Angry Mob, 1 Kird Ape (arabian) and 2 Chain Lightings for a Control Magic! I was in a hurry, and the bastard took every advantage of it... but then I also remember trading 1 Veteran bodyguard, 1 Serra Angel, 1 Howling Mine, 2 White Knights and 2 Crusades for 4 Tropical Islands and 4 Tundras, just the day before 4th ed. came out
Yes, I did get the Undermines in that trade. I traded loads of crap for 2 great cards. Then, I used those later to get rages when rages were more popular, and then when Undermine was more popular I traded my fifth Rage for an Undermine.
I routinely trade in peoples favor.
I traded away a mint candleabra of tawnos for 20 dolllars (when it was worth a lot more...), then turned and spent the 20 spot on fallen empires-ick-yech yech!

I once traded a kid an Ashen Powder(6th) for a Lightning Angel and Meddling Mage. He didnt play more than one color in a deck so he wanted to get rid of them. Unfortunately, the store owner say the deal go down and warned me that if I ripped little kids off again, I wouldnt be allowed to come back in the store. The kid got pissed, cause he liked me for some reason, and told the store owner that he wanted to do the trade, and didn't care that I got a better deal. After the kid left, the store owner gave me the same warning, and I told him to stick it, and have never been back to that store. I hear its going out of business now......

I just traded an Armageddon for a Devoted Caretaker. A bad, bad trade to begin with. Then I put the card in my pocket for safekeeping. Later that day, I put a hard cover book into my pocket. I traded an unlimited Mox Sapphire for two Underground Seas and $10. The thing is, I made a profit on it... later that week, the new Scrye came out, listing Moxen at $100 and climbing steadily...
I've also traded an unlimited Beserk and a revised Fork for a Pyramids. I knew it was a bad deal monetarily, but I at least got to ruin the guy's day by immediately asking him quite pointedly how much he took me for. He was quite crestfallen. The sad thing is, I threw this card (and about 6 other decks worth) out when overzealously cleaning my car...

My worst trade was definitely when I gave a friend of mine about $1000 (in 1996 value) worth of cards, including a lotus, two moxes, a ton of duals, and a bunch of other good old cards, and he never payed me. Jerked me around for about a year and a half, then changed his address. If he hadn't been in Texas, and I in PA, then something bad would've happened. Strangest thing about it though was that he'd bought almost $2000 worth of cards from me about a month before that, so why wouldn't I trust him? That turned out bad in hindsight too, since I sold him at least 20 beta duals for like $20 each, 4 Juzams for $75, Power9 cards for about half what they go for now, etc, etc. (Trying to suppress lingering sadness) If I had all that stuff today, it would be worth at least $5000, you name it I had it. But, oh well.
Best trade I ever had was a beta Mox Jet, a whole necro deck (when it was a big deal), and several sinkholes, all for one unlimited Timetwister. The mox what a bit more played that the Twister, but when I asked the guy what he wanted me to throw in, all he took was an armageddon and a Balduvian Trading Post (red alliance sac land). I was too shocked to stop the deal, and the dude was never bitter, he just didn't care. Ahh, to reminisce . . . at least I can say I still made way more at magic than I ever spent. Then there's the story of how I got ripped off for my Beta Lotus, but in the end came out 4 Moxes ahead on the deal [Kind of a best/worst trade all wrapped together, I really loved that Lotus] I could go all night with this stuff, so I'll stop now.

The first day or two that I got into the game, I traded a bayou for a Cockatrice, and a Taiga for a Hive! Dual lands were 'just lands' and they seemed boring . . . Of course I didn't really know how to play at the time, and I remember asking someone if Thicket Basilisk was restricted (It can kill ANY creature, that's so good!). I quickly realized duals were good, however, and I collected them relentlessly. I sold so many alpha and beta duals for $20 a piece (sniff) . . .

My best trade was last week, when I got an Unlimited Black Lotus for: 2 Hanna Ship's Navigator, 2 Second Chance, 3 5th ed. City of Brass, 1 Holistic Wisdom, 1 Glorious Anthem (saga), 1 Armored Guardian, 1 Shivan Wurm, 1 Chronicles Ernham Djinn, 1 Mirari, 2 Mageta the Lion, 1 Tradewind Rider, 1 Crystal Quarry, 2 Null Brooch, and 1 Planar Portal. They book out at $136 high Scrye price, so I feel pretty good about it. The only card I hated losing was the Tradewind, but I'll live without it, I guess, lol..........

At a store today I saw a chronicles Erhnam for $25. It was hard to tell if t was signed or not, that's the only explanation I can think of. Unless they cant tell the difference between white and black borders.
My worst trade ever was probably my two Beta Psionic Blasts (one signed) for a couple Bayous and other random stuff. A few months later I saw unlimited ones going for $25 
Fortunately, I got the Psi Blasts for almost nothing, so I actually made a profit on the deal...
My best recent trade that I can remember was my Shadowmage Infiltrator, Gaea's Cradle, and 13 random bad Invasion rares for a NM English Abyss and Tropical Island. The dual was the 40th for my set :D

My friend Joe and I both bought a few decks of Urza's Saga, neither of us played much at the time and we were just out to reminisce and have some fun. We decided to trade each other cards in the colors we wanted to play, and I ended up trading him a Morphling for . . . a Whirlwind. Because he was focusing on blue, and I on green. The funniest part is that the morphling is still buried in his room somewhere in a Saga deckbox . . . as far as I know that was the last time he played magic.

Here's a funny end to one of my "bad trades". When Saga came out, I traded a Morphling from my one starter deck for a Whirlwind from my friends deck. He wanted blue, I wanted green, neither of us cared too much. A rare for a rare. Of course, I later found out that Morphling is one of the most popular cards! And I traded it for a junk rare!
Well, 3 years later and I'm at his house, and what does he find under his bed? The deck with the morphling in it. He quit playing years ago, so of course he let me have the cards. Friendship, it's a wonderful thing . . .

Just tonight I lost a Deckmasters Necro, a Beatdown Ball Lightning, a Kamahl, an Avatar of Might, a Utopia Tree, a Vindicate, a Mossfire Valley, and two Foil basic lands for two Mystic Snakes because I REALLY need Mystic Snakes. jury's still out on whether I got screwed on that one or not. For the record, I had absolutely no use for anything I traded.

I once traded a good condition UL Time Walk for a good condition Beta Gauntlet of Might. I wasn't playing blue, and at the time I was obsessed with making a Gauntlet deck. The guy was a jerk and wouldn't take anything else for it. Around the same time I also traded an okay Ancestral for a p.o.s. condition Mox Pearl that I didn't really need, and I think I traded the Timetwister for a forcefield or something. Not at all related to the time when I got a god-deal for a different twister. Pathological hatred of blue can make a person do some strange things. Also, there was way more parity between the values of UL/Beta rares then than there is now. Ironically, although I'm still not crazy about blue, I'd definitely rather have those cards than any of the stuff I ended up with. Not that I'd still own any of it now regardless . . . that entire collection was the one that basically got flushed down a toilet somewhere in Texas.

Sadly, I guess I have to list my affair with the
Australian Chris Woolley (known here as Zanethian)
as my worst trade ever. He offered me some cards
if I bought him some posters of Finnish metal
bands (because they really aren't imported to
Australia that much).
So I bought two band flags, which are of better
quality than paper posters and endure shipping
better. I guess he didn't send the cards, after
all I never received them and he hasn't contancted
me since I asked him to look up the matter with
his post office (he claims they were sent registered).
The eventual scenario: I invested money in flags I
have no use for, and have nothing in return.
Great. (We agreed that he sends first because of
very few online trading references.) At least
most of you got some (albeit crappy) cards for
your trouble. I am quite sure I won't manage to
sell the flags for anywhere near the retail value

When I first started playing and you could still buy Revised I got a dual land from my friend for almost nothing. At the time I didn't know what it's value was; I would trade for any nonbasic lands simply because I liked the way they looked. I later gave it back to him when I found out what it was worth. God that was a long time ago.

you guys are always talking about "bad trades". However, isnt the point that everyone gets what they want? If you rip yourself off monetarily to get the cards you need to finish a deck, then isnt the opportunity cost worth it? That is how the trading game works, folks...

Problem is, everyone seems to want money. I hate that. When I trade, it is always for cards I need or want. I am always fully aware of the "monetary" value of any cards involved in the trade, but only because it has some meaning to the person I'm trading with; not to me. I've been known to give away for FREE heavily popular or expensive cards that I have no use for to people that do need or want them. I'd like to expect the same of others, but I know I'm fairly singular in that ideal, and no one will return me the favor but very close friends. A card is worth only what I'm willing to give for it. If I'm desperate enough for something, I'll give much more than its worth. If it's something I'd like to have but don't need immediately, unless you part with it easily, I won't make a major effort to get it. Eh. The thought process of a jaded player, I guess.

my worst trade was when i first started magic and bought a lot of nemesis packs, i pulled a tangle wire and i trade it for viserex, man that was realy stupid, i thought the viserdrex was better because it dealt 6 damage and i was stunned by that.

OK.....Back in January 1997 I sold my deck w/22 duals, 5 moxes, a lotus, a juzam, and too many other medium priced rares to a store for $450.00 total. Why? I was discouraged at the direction WoTC was taking MTG and wanted to get out. This was also at a time that I wanted to show my wife how much I loved her, so I took the money and bought a violin she had been wanting as a surprise (I gave up MTG for her... ). She played the violin ONCE over the next 4 years!!!!!!
We later sold the violin for $100.00 at a music store.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, be as STUPID as I was!!!! If you get your hands on great OOP cards, never, let them go....YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!
About 4 or 5 months ago I got back into MTG and am steadilly rebuilding my collection. Thank God for the essentialmagic.com proxies....
I guess I'm fortunate to still be married....maybe.

Best trade: My 2x Lord of Atlantis(wb) a for his McChicken meal at McDonalds. I hadn't eaten a bite the whole day, and was getting hungry after 7 rounds of swiss and the Top 8 still to come, the time being 8PM or something like that.
Worst trade: My Morphling for his 10USD. Never should have sold it.
