There is a little kid at my school who has a lot of old cards that he got in a collection from his older brother including beat up ancestral, some duals, and some decent legends rares like Ali from Cairo, and Old man of the Sea. He offered to sell them to me for $150, and this is an absolute steal because he has 4 or 5 duals and the ancestral and has no idea what they are worth.
On the one hand, I've been looking to find cheap power so I can get into type one and this is as cheap as they come...
But on the other hand he is only in 8th grade (I'm a junior) and he has no idea that he is getting ripped off as he could easily get $200 or more on E-bay
So what do you guys think i should do? Please help me out...
Amos
If you are asking chances are you having second thoughts. The question you need to ask yourself is can you live with yourself if you do buy the cards off of him.
Give him a decent deal. He offered to sell them at $150 so give him that and some more. Don't rip off the kid.
Heh, what do you want from us? Its just a moral decision. Personally, I would rip the kid off... but maybe I'm not somebody you should model your values after. What you would be doing is "wrong". Are you OK with doing wrong? Some people are and some people aren't.
Don't rip him off...or I'll hunt you down
Give him a decent deal. He offered to sell them at $150 so give him that and some more. Don't rip off the kid.
150$ isnt exactly ripping him off if the cards are really beat-up, so you have to take that into consideration. Personally, i have no conscience, so i would definetly take the deal.
Gotta comply with Elrond. You're already getting them at a bargain...
Think of it this way, if you were the kid, would you want someone to tell you if you were making a mistake???
Can't tell you what you should do, but I can tell you what I would do. If he made the offer for $150, I'd take it, no questions asked. However, I would stear away from making an initial offer of that low, or in any way implying that the cards are actually only worth that much.

Card condition has to be considered, as well as the complications involved in selling it elsewhere. If you need rationalization, he would likely get no more from a dealer were he to sell there. It really depends on
a) How bad of a condition they are in.
b) How you feel about it. Since you used the words 'Rip Off', I dont think you'll do it.
I would trade him a shivan dragon, and a lord of the pit for the whole thing....think about it this way you can give hime a decent deal, which is what 15 bucks would be...or I'll be there to "really" rip him off....
Hi, I'm Random-Miser, and I suck cock for money.
I think, honestly, that you should take it.
If he has five duals and Ancestral beat up, then that's like $150 if their minty. Since they're beat up, I'd say that's reasonable on both sides, maybe favoring you a bit with the other cards you're getting.
fuck all that noise i would offer him 100 bux cause he is in 8th grade and a dork he would take it. and i would go these are all beat up i dont know if i should even give you a hunder im tring to help you out and i would make him throw something else in like a cd or soemthing. and ask his mom out on a date
Big dick in my mouth just makes me all wet.
No matter what happens, if you dont buy the cards, let the kid know what the cards are currently worth.
If you do buy teh cards, I would suggest giving him a fair price; 150-200 isnt bad for an ancestral and 3 or 4 dual lands. unless the rest of the stuff is awesome (library, juzams, drains, etc) it really doesnt matter
Thanks for the advice guys, the kid asked his older brother what they were worth and his brother was like 'i don't care' so the kid thinks they are worth nothing...ummm...so...i'm pretty sure i'm gonna buy, and umm...Random-Miser, i'm pretty sure that's not really you but if it is, GAWD man i don't wanna hear about that. Anyway, the other stuff are like hard to find legends cards and a couple of other goodies from arabian nights. And the ancestrall is beta so it's definately worth at least $120 even if it is beat up. The point is i'm definatly getting too good a deal, but I don't think i'm man enough to back out.
Amos
Are the dual lands Beta? If not, then $150 is actually not too bad for beat up cards from someone who doesn't care enough to check a price guide. About Ali From Cairo and Old Man of the Sea-- if you're not a collector they're not worth jack since they're unplayable and he'd probably never unload them otherwise. So what you're looking at is $120 for the Ancestral Recall plus about 30 bucks for four beat up dual lands. If your conscience needs help, give him $200-- any more than that and you're spending more than what you are getting is really worth. Unless there's stuff like LoA and so forth involved, 200 should be perfectly fine from a moral standpoint.
