I broke Type 1. Pure and simple. With creatures such as Blurred Mongoose and Magnigoth Treefolk, I will always have a creature that control will have a hard time stopping. The Mongeese come into play turn 1 more often than not, which gives keeper and other multicolor strategies ONLY 10 turns to find an abyss or a moat. The Treefolk is a gigantic wall in the way of every aggro deck, and it's pretty much unblockable against control (a good thing, since control is famous for playing several creatures).

The Pernicious Deed is a metagame call against aggro, and it can also serve as a mox killer if needed.

Holistic Window is an amazing card that let's me recurse Ancestrals, wastelands,etc...

My sideboard is supposed to destroy control. With the chokes, I can drop a quick mongeese and seal the win. Even though it affects me quite a lot, I trust that the mongeese gives them a window too small for them to gain control (10 turns is a really good clock in Type 1, since it's such a slow format).

And the bearscapes go in also against control providing me with lots and lots of critters.

In playtesting, my match-ups have been like this:

Keeper: 75% win
Mono-blue: 60% win
Stompy: 90% win
Sligh: 90% win
Crazy Zombies: 80% win

All my losses have been due to play error, and the deck had nothing to do with it. NOTHING. ZIP. NADA.

THe only other major deck is haven't playtested against is ICTroll, which I think is the only other Tier 1 deck in Type 1.

So, any ideas for improvement?

I think u need to add 4 RT's to ur sideboard, a quick RT against keeper is such a fast clock they can never hope to recover from it, and also a great blocker vs aggro. Maybe u should include the RT's maindeck. I will win toc5 for u with this deck. Thanx

By Nebrindil (Nebrindil) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:07 pm:

yea, forgot about the Redwood Treefolks.
i think i'll add red for some burn tho.

By Squirrel on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:24 pm:

I just wasted this deck, hehe

By Curses/Foiled is not amused on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:33 pm:

You know what? BDominia REALLY needs a Bullshit Mill.

By Elrohir (Elrohir) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:34 pm:

It's called the Rumor Mill.

By Tracer Bullet, the DanDan Man (Tracer) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:39 pm:

I say we rename it the "ZombieSqueeTreefolkDoomsday mill"

By AHappyClown (Clown) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 04:58 pm:

My Deep Spawn/Polar Kraken Oath deck would beat this like a little girl with a skinned knee in a turnip patch.

By Magimaster (Magimaster) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 05:06 pm:

Don't forget the "Mountain Goat/Bloodlust/Berserk/Fling" Deck ;p

By Reper (Reper) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 05:16 pm:

shouldnt this be in the casual mill or the im a dumbass mill

By Liam (Liam) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 07:40 pm:

ROTFLOL!!

Holistic Window indeed.

Magimaster I have enearthed the final answer to your all-powerul Mountain Goat, may you shudder in fear.

Camel!

By Nebrindil (Nebrindil) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 08:05 pm:

Moving this to the Rumor mill was not cool.

This deck is really good, no lies.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 08:53 pm:

Eh?

I thought you were cracking a joke, Nebrindil!

Anyhow, the deck structure just looks like the generic aggro-control with other tricks structure, so what creatures you use is the least relevant part of the deck.

By Matt the Great (Matt) on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 04:09 am:

Is it the custom in non-America countries to only say something with sarcasm once, and then revert to normal speech? Because everywhere I look, people from other countries get confused really easily, more so than I would think the language barrier accounts for.

By Curses/Foiled on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 09:25 am:

Actually, it is. Kind of. Well, it DOES happen. Jokes don't carry over sentences, you see; cracking one once doesn't automatically mean that you would do it again in the same conversation (it isn't really even likely, considering that the point of humour has already been made, and continuing with non-constructive bullshit would harm the discussion and potentially irritate others participating in it - in other words, 'stretching' jokes is considered bad demeanour).

Ahh, cultural gaps. Where would we be without you?

By BWM, Phyrexian infiltrator on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 03:23 pm:

What if your opponent plays a Diabolic Edict after you had a 'wonder'-start with a Mongoose???

By BeBe, the Redeemer (Bebe) on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 05:29 pm:

I still can't figure out how it beats neo-ICT that packs Dervishesand the newest tech -Aeophiles.

By Anxiety (Anxiety) on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 05:51 pm:

Wormwood Treefolk?

-Anxiety

By Liam (Liam) on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 05:51 pm:

Of course this is a joke!

lemme explain a bit about North American humor.

"Stretching" the joke is bad, but that situation takes a long, long time to arrive at. If the joke is at someone else's expence, you bring it up again at every opportunity to grind their face in it, for about the rest of the time spent with the people in question. If it's very good, once or twice for the rest of the week is still funny.
If it's like this one and not directed at anyone, it's called "hamming it up" which just means you go bigger and cheesier, making it even more ridiculous.

By ZorroXX on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 09:59 pm:

this is just like dumsday or the 'invincible' counter trash: its all talk and no walk

By Matt the Great (Matt) on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 02:51 am:

Except Doomsday was worse than ICT ever was, because there were several people involved. It also hurt that they were the "mill leaders," at least when Roy spouts bullshit no one believes him.

By gary on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 09:04 am:

wheres the pepper mill ?

By Curses/Foiled on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 06:04 pm:

Liam: Still, I would say that the true problem lies in the fact that when dealing with strangers, sarcasm and genuine stupidity can be hard to distinguish.

By Henge Wolf (Wolf) on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 11:26 pm:

Not to mention we're on the internet, which is probably the worst place for sarcasm. Even if you know who you're talking to, it's so easy to misinterpret another person's text-only message.

By Anonymous Random Scrub on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 01:13 am:

3 Mox Emerald
4 Tolarian Academy
4 Library of Alexandria

Other Broken Stuff: 32

4 Mind Twist

By Matt Caplan (Caplan) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 02:10 pm:

No way, man. You have to go:

10 Mox Ruby
10 Black Lotus
30 Lightning Bolt
10 Wheel of Fortune

By BWM, phyrexian infiltrator on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 03:56 pm:

Anonymous Random Scrub, you forgot Mind over Matter, remove Library of Alex too, it's too slow (LOL)

By why restrictions exist on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 10:20 pm:

How about

30 Black Lotus
26 Timetwister
4 Underworld Dreams

for the guaranteed turn 1 combo win instead?

By CTT on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 12:27 pm:

500 Black Lotus
500 Wheel of Fortune

What, it isn't any less legal than your decks ;)

By General Talon on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 03:22 pm:

How does a counterburn hold up?
Apoc, holding two counterspells and a misdirection. I imagine it's countered. Counterspell the counterspell. Countered. Counter counter. Misdirection back at original counter. Will it still hold up? Will it writhe in agony? Hahahahahahaha!
And a bit off-Topic, does anybody else think Mystic Snake/Temporal Adept is a good combo?

By grimJester on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 - 10:59 am:

How about teh m0st br0k3n dekc evr:

150 Lotus
150 Twister
2 Battle of Wits

This easily proves how broken BoW is; it needs to be restricted, or casual play will never be the same again.

I went 3-2-1 with this deck the last time I played it, losing only to manascrew and a couple play mistakes. We ran out of time once when my opponent refused to help me shuffle. People can be such jerks.

By grimJester on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 - 12:02 pm:

Oh, yeah, can u help wiht my sideboard?

Here's what I got:

1 Sol Ring (when i need more speed)
1 Lord of teh Pit (vs control, better than Negator against Moat)
1 Reya dawnbringer (combo w lord. My own tech!)
3 feldon's Cane (vs. Millstone)
2 Consecrt Land (vs. Ponza)
2 Ring of maruf (If i sideboarded wrong)
2 Nightmare (good vs weenie, one is black borderd :-))))
1 Goblin War Buggy (I jus put this on top of my sideboard so opponent'll think im playing sligh. sometimes they make mistaeks)
