Is there anyone who has played this great game in the past or better yet, who is playing it currently? I just started playing and I have a endless stream of questions ...
I played it a few years ago.
i also played a few years ago, but didnt get too far...i kept starting over *like i usually do with CRPGs* to find the character I liked the best....I think I stopped on my way to the first real quest...some dungeon I think in the middle of nowhere...so I probably know nothing.
Hello, JP!
just of top of my head:
I never encounter any opponents while traveling, regardless if I travel cautiously or recklessly, and regardless of camping out or staying at taverns. Is this supposed to be? I am playing a "fixed" version and don´t know if they created new bugs. Some quests are too easy now like any sort of escorting or delivery. However, I DO encounter something if I camp manually.
I can see all dungeons, cities etc on my map from the beginning, is this also supposed to be? I thought that I have to hear of the dungeon beforehand.
If I leave and reenter a dungeon, all enemies and treasures have respawned. This is dumb. I can make so much money in smaller tombs that I don´t have to fulfill any quests.
How many guilds can I join? What have I to do in order to advance in the various guilds?
What is fatigue? Is that my stamina?
That´s it for now. Thanx in advance!
Daggerfall will always be one of my fave RPGs because it was so open-ended. Who cares about storyline when you're killing vampires? I've played many hours and started over many times and I still haven't gone very far into the plot. There are still active forums out there, esp. since TES 3: Morrowind will be out soon. this is one of the more active ones: http://www.elderscrolls.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true
Daggerfall is a very flawed game, but it still offers great RP freedom. You can only join one of each type of guild, ie one magic guild, one knight guild, one cleric guild, one fighter guild, etc. You get to see all cities and towns and some dungeons, mostly graveyards, but others have to found or told to you by some kid who hands you a map of a dungeon.
i think my two favorite aspects of Daggerfall were it was one of the first RPGs to go the Doom route of moving around...and the weather (especially the fog). I did hear about a lot of crashing bugs, but it didn't happen to often to me, so I guess I was lucky.
I vaguely recall playing it years ago, but stopped when I went to Korea and the computer went to my parents' house...
I'll have to see if I can't run the game down - as I recall, I spent many hours happily killing things and discovering how it all works.
I recall a giant's house, in particular. All the furniture was huge. I never encountered an actual giant, though - which might be a good thing, all told.
Daggerfall was by no means the first RPG to go the Doom route of moving around. I could easily go back to the Might and Magic series which had first person perspective. There is also the original Phantasy Star, which had first person perspective in dungeons. My fave is of course Ultima Underworld and its sequel which predate Daggerfall by a good several years and are the best implemented for that time. And of course we can't forget Arena, to which Daggerfall is a sequel. I've only mentioned a few games, I'm sure there are more.

YOUR DROPPED YOUR MORPHLING!!
Hey guys, I think we dropped the topic...
elrohir, im talking about 360 degree movement, not grid movement, which I think Bard's Tale or Wizardy were the first to do.
Yeah, probably those. I don't have experience with 'em. But I know for a fact that UW had virtually unrestricted 360 degree non-grid movement years before Daggerfall, since UW came out somewhere around 1990-1991, and Daggerfall was what, 1996 or 1997?
I'm personally a fan of Betrayal at Krondor, a badass First Person RPG that came out in 1991-92? The only americanized RPG that I ever really got into for that matter, but hey, that's just me.

Thank you, JP. But one thing: I NEVER encounter anything while traveling and in escort missions there is even no villain at the end! Perhaps I haven´t played long enough yet.
