Reper, URMage, anyone else playing mountains; In the future, please set your alarms, ask for rides, do whatever it takes, but get your butts to the tournaments. Half the field was suicide black and its getting ridiculous.

Hey RacerX, I forgot to get your email. Send me a message at Jr***n@a***i.com if you still want the STP list.

Katzby + Egon, Thanks for coming down, hope you enjoyed the festivities. Good work on making the finals.

Overall I think this past tournament was one of the best yet as far as quality of decks and players, I hope the NoVa guys come back.

For those of you who care, it was an 18 man event, Top 4 were OSE, Keeper, Sligh, Fish. (one other 3-1-1 was shut out on tiebreakers, an inventive Land Tax control deck) Keeper beat sligh, Fish beat OSE (although OSE did pull the win in the Swiss, all 4 games were terrific and the matchup is dead even); then Fish beat Keeper in the finals.
The Fish deck was a great call and totally unexpected, maindeck rootwaters and null rods really shut down otherwise dominate decks.

Appreciated, and absolutely my pleasure. I am compiling the traditional report which will be done as soon as I can find the time.

Yeah, we definitely need a Sligh presence (what?!?!) to balance out our environment-- we FINALLY have a Keeper deck again, but things are still getting pretty wierd around here since out of 18 people there are at least 6 home-brewed decks each time (counting OSE and Funker variants) and our metagame is just screwy. At least four mono-black decks and only one Sligh is just not normal.

By SliverKing on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 09:55 am:

Why the hell did I get bumped to the rumor mill, this is competitive Type 1 related.

By Thorme on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 01:04 pm:

Screwy is exactly the word for the metagame. There was an abundance of mono-black, and at least 3 decks sporting welders.

I played 3 straight matches against mono-black (I was the one playing Land Tax Control...a deck I call the Country Club) After that, I feel like showing up next T1 w/ 4 Dodecapods main.

I'm tempted to play freaking Stompy if I can throw the cards together in time... SHEESH!!!

Hey guys, this is my second post ever but I'm finally gonna stop lurking and post more often now that I've actually had the pleasure of meeting some of you.

The tourney was great! Had some truely stellar games, particularly against OSE. So thanks for the good press Josh. The fish deck, which will hence forth be known as "gay fish" due to the presence of so many faeries, was a personal creation and pet deck of mine that I had been honing to beat keeper. That it actually won the tourney was a nice suprise.

"Gay Fish" by Marc Perez
// creatures
4 Rootwater Thief
4 Manta Riders
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Cloud of Faeries
// spells
4 Force of Will
3 Misdirection
4 Standstill
4 Curiosity
2 Capsize
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
3 Null Rod
// mana
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Strip Mine
2 Wasteland
4 Faerie Conclave
4 Mishra's Factory
10 Island
// side board
SB: 1 Disrupt
SB: 2 Wash Out
SB: 1 In the Eye of Chaos
SB: 2 Wasteland
SB: 4 Hydroblast
SB: 3 Snap
SB: 1 Upheaval
SB: 1 Misdirection

The metagame was a little different than I expected, there was no BBS which would have been great vs all the decks running so many duel lands. And only one sligh? Didn't see any combo, enchantress or parfait either....oh well, all of the decks I played against were very good, sui black, funker, OSE, keeper, and tubbies.

Anyway, you can definately expect the NoVa guys back for the next tourney.

mmm, is there a lot of nonbasic hate floating around there?

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Monday, February 04, 2002 - 10:01 pm:

Every time but this time. Our metagame has no discernable pattern, but we were missing 3 people this time who I think would have torn shit up had they been there.

Okay, I'm just trying to figure out what deck I can request that can live without a lot of power when I come there for the next one.

I have a spare Emerald and Pearl, so G/W is looking good. :P

PT Funk has historically done well against Aggro Black.
