Beyond Dominia: The Rumor Mill: Evolution.....

By WackiT evolving to far to be sane DuckMAiN... on Thursday, February 14, 2002 - 04:10 am:

I have found a way to speed up the process...

Now I just evolve the structures of decks...

What I do eactly is figuring out a pattern that decks can be filthered into...

For example I can say that the cards chosen must relate to a manacurve, or must consist of a specific number of creatures...

There is still random choices involved but within tight lines and criterias...

After I have designed a number of deckbuilding guidelines I use dice and deckbuilders to create decks in a certain amount...

Then I pit these decks against the deckpool (100 decks)

The best deckbuilding structures survive and mutate while the bad ones are utterly destroyed...

I still mutate the deckpool after the old rules set, just to be sure that there is a decline and raise in diversity once in a while...

Next step is to find a way to evolve what sort of criterias to use in these deckbuilders...

some structures that have survived well are:

12 lands of type a.
12 lands of type b.

4 pairs of cards in color a.
4 pairs of cards in color b.

1 pair of artifact.

total 60 cards...

8 lands of type a.
8 lands of type b.
8 lands of type c.

3 pairs of cards in color a.
3 pairs of cards in color b.
3 pairs of cards in color c.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking back in time I already had designed that concept but never realised its potential...

My oldest version was this...

Choose a random color. (not artifact)...

Take the newest cardepansion and 1 of each card in that expansion of the chosen color, shuffle them all and draw 10 of them at random...

Then put 4 of each card in slevees, supply with 20 lands and try to beat some random person with it, write down all combos discovered during play, evolve a prototype of a new deck and finetune the concept...

Well sometimes the answer is right in front of you...

This proces however is outdated but can still be usefull...

Hope you can use the idea of evolving deckdesigning structures, it takes the fun out of the elder processes... :.(...

Rakso, will you STOP moving these damn threads to the Rumor Mill? It's about DEVELOPING TYPE ONE DECKS, not some random story by a nutcase who turns up twice a month.

Development of new decks in Type One? We all know it's X Morphling + 7 Broken Blue Things + Will and Twist + Power/Mana Sources. There's nothing new about it, aside from the great debate over one card slot...FireIce, or Diabolic Edict...OH! What a horrible choice!

It´s still interesting to know if his methods evolve into this or at least how near they get. Anyone disliking WD´s great project should just stop posting in this thread.

And of course, he has WAY too much free time on his hands, pitting the basic form against 100 decks.

HUNH !!!

so this is why I never saw any answers...

Im degraded to a rumor...

Would that mean Im semiexistant like a GHOST...

Ethereal darkman strikes again...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SERIOUSLY:

Giggles, you may be right at that point, but I posted the project at my fave mill (T1)...

So think of other formats but keep the concept at hand...

I think that with some finetuning There could be made some real good deckconstruction rules out of this...

Now one part that surely has to be dominant are decks made on structures with a reliant manacurve...

Other things to consider would be if certain slots would have to be filled with specific cardtypes like enchantments, creatures and so on...

For example a weenie deck has a manacurve, and almost always the same amount of creatures instants and enchantments but with slightly altered changes...

This means that succesfull weeniedecks are actually a well brewed recipient that has undergone almost no changes since its dawning...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have written about the following deck:

8 lands of corresponding manatypes for each 3 colors (green, red, white)...

Green:
4 werebears
4 rituals of spring
4 chatter of the squirrels

Red:
4 assault/batter
4 thunderscape apprentice
4 rites of initiation

White:
4 tireless tribes
4 sunscape apprentice
4 wax/wane

Using this decks structure I constructed the following deck:

8 of each lands for each 3 colors...

Black:
4 frightcrawlers (replaced werebears)
4 last rites (replaced rites of spring)
4 mindbursts (relaced chatter of the squirrels)

White:
4 dega disciple (replaced sunscape apprentice)
4 benalish trapper (replaced tireless tribe)
4 disenchant (replaced wax/wane)

Blue:
4 stormscape apprentice (replaced thunderscape apprentice)
4 ætherburst (replaced assault/batter)
4 memory lapse (replaced rites of initiation)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What was copied from the structure was simply the amount of creatures and their castingcost (with very few exceptions)
and the amount of instants/sorceries also with same castingcost (again save some exceptions)...

Now both decks have been tested against 2 other players (Demonlich and another guy)

The other guy is not a regular player, but demonlich once won 3rd place (or something near that) in sealand, quallifying for tourneys in juttland (both places are DK)...

Now the weretribe deck has beaten Demonlich when it was made (it went 2-1 then 1-2 so it was actually even).

Since then Demonlich has refined his deck, and it can now defeat weretribe easily, but when it comes to defeating what could be weretribes evil twin, he is the one easily defeaten...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now the interresting part is when we begin to play with the idea of changing an entire color from one of these and shift it into the other deck...

I have thought of taking the blue part out of "stormtrapper" and removing the red section of weretribe, then test wether any of the two has improved...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you now has a more detailed explanation, perhaps you could write some newer decks as an reply, which share certain attributes...

There is nothing wrong with very similar decks, but there should be impacting changes (over 50% chance of drawing one of the exchanged cards in an oppening hand)...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to close the subject from my side, what do you think of the general concept of evolving structures instead of cardpools?

And which deck do you like the better, weretribe or stormtrapper ???
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and talon, I dont know what free time is... :(...

By WD on Friday, February 15, 2002 - 06:03 pm:

Note:

The remove a color from deck, was meant more as an exchange...

Come to think of it, If you should take a guess at it, what colorshift would you make and in which one of the decks???

(And exchanging white with white is an option)...

WD

Erh, by the way Liam, what makes you so sure Im nUt a nOtcase writing twice a month ???
