Everyone remembers Necropotence, the black card from Ice Age that made suicide black or necro decks so famous. Just in case, though, for those of you who don't

Necropotent
Enchantment
Ice Age Rare (reprinted as a rare in 5th ed.)
BBB
Skip your draw step.
If you would discard a card from your hand, remove that card from the game instead.
Pay 1 life: Remove the top card of your library from the game face down. At the end of your turn, put that card into your hand.

For 3 black mana, whether drawn from a Black Lotus, Mox Jet, Swamp, or a single Dark Ritual, it comes out sooner then you think. The earlier, the better. It insures you have a full hand. It alone pretty much defeats control. Except sligh, it can help arggo. It allows you to outrace combo. It gives black card advantage becides just making your opponent discard.

Then again, it does hurt your life and costs BBB, along with hurt Yawgmoth's Will...

I assure you, the pros definetly outweigh the cons. I run 1 in my black deck. Why doesn't anyone else?

(if anyone cares):

Creatures:
4 Phyrexian Negator
4 Hypnotic Specter
4 Natuko Shade

Spells:
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Duress
4 Dark Ritual
4 Null Rod
3 Diabolic Edict
1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation

Land:
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
3 Mishra's Factory
16 Swamp

Sideboard:
4 Dystopia
4 Masticore
4 Spinning Darkness
2 Powder Keg
1 Diabolic Edict

VENI vidi VINCI

You should have titled this: is Necro worth running in Suicide? Pretty vague subject ya got there.

I run it in my Sui. Why not? If it resolves against control, you win. :)

By meh on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 12:50 pm:

it's vici. (past) perfect tense. 3rd principle part of vinco, and it's a 3rd conjugation verb.

latin sucks.
4 years was hell.

By A Foul-Mouthed Pokemon Pornographer (Fbi) on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 12:59 pm:

Yep yer right...don't why I put in the 'n' guess it just looked right:( I think i missed up bc alot of ppl pronounce it more like "vicchi"

my bad

past is not technically a tense btw in latin tho. its perfect system, perfect tense. why do they call it the pefect stem anyway? its also the stem for the future perfect and pluperfect. The same holds true for the present system

why not just call them progressive and aorist??? But then they'd have to explain how latin is kinda/sorta defective in the "aorist" present tense (that is the perfect system) technically theres no form to say I walk separate from I'm walking

at least theres no optative to worry about:)

By V times 3 on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 01:02 pm:

Sorry, I'm no good at Latin and I couldn't think of a good name =\.

So does anyone have discussion other then pointing out I suck at Latin ? =)

By A Foul-Mouthed Pokemon Pornographer (Fbi) on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 01:08 pm:

Play necro

but don't you need some one drops?

P.S. 4th pp of vinco, vincere (no macra=3rd) is victum (perfect passive participle ~~ conquered or really pedagogically "having been conquered"

By alucard13x on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 01:09 pm:

no, but you suck at latin

By Superman on dope (Dope) on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 01:12 pm:

V times 3: What am I, ur mom? :)

Run it if you have room, or cut something for it.

You just win if it hits against control.

And run some Sinkholes while your at it. Mono black sucks w/o Sinkholes. ;)

By AHappyClown (Clown) on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 02:31 pm:

I run Necro in my version of the deck formerly known as OSE. I'ts good, makes it function a lot like Ext. '00, post board Trix.

By JB on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 02:48 pm:

Necro is great in Suicide, but where are the Sinkholes and Carnophages?!

By Dandan (Dandan) on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 03:01 pm:

Necro is possibly the most broken card drawing engine ever printed. Does that answer the question?

(I MIGHT consider not putting one in a deck with 4 Reavers)

By The Prophet on Monday, February 18, 2002 - 03:02 pm:

Is it still possible to build a Necrodeck? I loved the old Necrodecks and when it first got restricted I tried to build something like it with 4 (I have forgotten the name) "pay half your life
rounded up: Draw 4 cards" (it costs BBB to play and it´s a sorcery). That deck worked well against control but it sucked harder against anything even
just a bit aggro than Necro ever did.
Phyrexian arena is´t a very good replacement either, it just is´t good enough for T1(much to slow). Has anyone got a decklist for Necro now when it´s key card is restricted? Please post it!

?

Take a Suicide Black build and shove Necro right in there. :)

If you want to try a Necro build with 4 of those badboys (for casual, whatever) you can check the Tier 1 thread for a nice build by Acolytec.

By Paranoid Android on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 02:11 am:

The card is infernal contract from mirage. Do control players really scoop when necro resolves?
Never tried necro in type1.

By nonon on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 02:39 am:

No control players don't scoop when necro resolves. It just sucks. Of course it can make for an easy win if the necro player is not careful with a sideboarded fireball. (Holding back black lotus tempting them lower, till their within range of your suprise mana burst. I here mana drain isn't to bad for this either. Or academy.

By FeverDog (Feverdog) on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 05:22 am:

Necro IS completely broken, but if you run Carnos, Sarcos and face a good amount of aggro(like me), it might not be the best idea. If you dont face too much burn then go for it.

By CrazyCarlWinter (Carlw) on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 12:35 pm:

puellae romanae sedent sub arbore

Translation:
The roman girl sits under the tree?

Or no?

By A Foul-Mouthed Pokemon Pornographer (Fbi) on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 12:39 pm:

No that ones plural: The (Some) Roman girls are sitting/sit under a tree

Puella romana sedet sub arbore=a roman girl is sitting under a tree

Hannibal used a plural verb with a singular subject is all:)

By A Foul-Mouthed Pokemon Pornographer (Fbi) on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 12:43 pm:

Unless hannibal wanted a macra (long mark) over the first 'e' in sedent. It would still be the wrong number with his subject but then it would also be subjunctive not indicative.

Also even tho the subjunctive looks the same and has a similar meaning ("rest" or "lay" is pretty close to "sit" here) its actually from sedo not sedeo:)
