In case anyone was wondering, we played our match last Thursday. I had asked JP to write the match report a week ago but so far nothing came from him. And, I honestly don't know when he will write it.

So, dear reader, any suggestions?

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 02:54 pm:

Finally finished all 6 of my AP exams, so here we go:

Game 1:

I cast Elemental Augury, so of course I won. Now, for the real report:

I have a pretty good hand with land, artifact mana, a FoF, and a Monkey. I drop the Monkey, which resolves, but my turn 1 FoF is Forced. We play draw-go for a while. I try to use Balance as a discard spell, which gets countered. He casts a mainphase FoF soon after. I give him a 4 card pile with 2 land, 1 Drain, and something else (Leak?) I then Vampiric for Yawgmoth's Will (NOT GAEA'S BLESSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and cast it. I Balance (making him lose a land and 6 cards in hand,) play Lotus, play a land, and am done. I am able to force down Elemental Augury soon after. I give him land for a while while I get counters. I cast a Morphling and mess around with the mana so that mine gets through for a bit of damage. He eventually Kegs it when I Time Walk for the kill. I will win the game since I have Obliterate and he's got 3 dead Morphlings and fewer cards left than me, but I cast my second Morphling a few turns later for the last attack.

Game 2:

He gets turn 1 B2B and I don't have a Force. :-( I eventually REB it, but he just plays another and I die horribly.

Game 3:

See game 2, just replace "turn 1" with "turn 2 using a Time Walk."

Game 1: We play draw-go for a while. I get Ancestral Recall at the end of JP's turn which resolves. Here, I make a brainfart and cast FoF on my main phase. Letting my guard down, JP vampiric for yawgmoth's will. which then netted him black lotus which gave him white mana for a balance in the graveyard.

Game 2: We played draw-go for a long while before back to basics hits. It will take more than a while before the game is sealed and JP's lands are tied.

More later.

By Nukaramento,*** Angel of dEath *** (Nukaramento) on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 05:32 pm:

Game 3:

I remember more of this game than the last.

JP went first. He goes mox, land, timewalk.
Then he goes mox, land, taps everything and fact or fictions!!

I Force of Will in response.

With him tapping out, I safely cast Back to Basics. This proves to be the key play as he never gets to untap his city of brass. Without any further red mana source, he was unable to cast his Red Elemental Blasts. Of course, I counter more spell of his along the way. It will take me a while before I seal the game with Morphling.

FYI, for games 2 and 3, I never resolved a turn 1 Back to basics.

My report fills in the holes that are in JP's report.

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 05:40 pm:

Game 1 I could have sworn you cast one on turn 1 with a Black Lotus.

By Nukaramento,*** Angel of dEath *** (Nukaramento) on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 05:41 pm:

huh!? cast what game 1 with lotus? I'm not sure what you're referring to.

By Nukaramento,*** Angel of dEath *** (Nukaramento) on Saturday, May 19, 2001 - 05:27 pm:

For game 1, I don't have Back to Basics maindeck.

For games 2 and 3, I remember the Back to Basics killing you slowly. If I did cast it first turn, you must had a turn 1 Red Elemental Blast.

By Negator on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 09:00 am:

Well well, looks like Legend made T8, albiet thru the playing of a low class theif. It will be good to see our exact list win, and then watch Nuk lie and take credit.

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 09:19 am:

Too bad neither of you did it yourselves, so put up or shut up. Learn some manners, boy.

By Nukaramento,*** Angel of dEath *** (Nukaramento) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 11:42 am:

I glad Rakso didn't deleted Negator's post. It perfectly shows a person wallowing in his own stupidity.

By the way, I always knew that Legend/Negator never left this mill.

By hungwell on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 04:37 pm:

I just want to make sure I understand. You make a decklist put it on a public mill then get pissed if anyone plays it? I have to be missing something.

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 05:09 pm:

I dunno, the tone doesn't seem right.

By Deranged Parrot (Parrot) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 05:57 pm:

You go, Az.

By the way, I've talked to Negator on IRC before about random stuff. He's actually pretty congenial once you get past the first couple minutes of fake arrogance. Maybe it's somewhat like Legend's odd sense of humor?

By FeverDog (Feverdog) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 07:10 pm:

No one is gonna take credit for "creating" mono-blue. Any idiot(including me) can pack 4 Morphs, 4 FoF and a bunch of counters into a deck. Long before i ever found this lovely mill, i played a counter deck very similar to what ppl are playing now, its not cuz im a great deckbuilder, just that it was fairly obvious. And why would Nuk try to take credit anyway??

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 08:22 pm:

LEGEND DOES NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR INVENTING MONO-BLUE.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 07:54 am:

Why do I seem to recall things slightly differently? :)

By Matt D'Avanzo, the Sylvan Librarian (Matt) on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 01:08 pm:

For the record...

Legend takes credit for removing the wastelands in Accelerated Blue, not for creating the archetype. I don't think anyone (including Patrick J...Monolihs were techy....moxen are not) can really take any significant credit for that....it's a pile of Morphlings, counters, and moxen.

That isn't exactly something I'd want to be remembered for ("Yea! I made my deck worse!")...but oh well. Legend actually isn't a bad guy at all in person and (suprise) a pleasant opponent, but you'd have an easier time wrestling jello than convincing him that he's wrong on some issue. I've taken the I'll-agree-to-disagree route with him.

Hey JP, is your Dark Keeper supposed to be secret, cuz i cant find a decklist anywhere on the mill. Im trying to add black to my Mono-blue deck and i thought your deck could have some interesting cards that i might not think of, or have overlooked. If you dont mind posting, or maybe you could e-mail me, i would appreciate it greatly.

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 04:32 pm:

It's not a secret, I just haven't done anything with it in a while. Here's what my list was that I used in T1ToC2:

RDK (REALLY Dark Keeper)

4 Underground Sea
4 Volcanic Island
4 City of Brass
3 Wasteland
2 Tundra
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Strip Mine
1 Tolarian Academy

5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring

4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
2 Fact or Fiction
2 Morphling
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Stroke of Genius

4 Duress
1 Diabolic Edict
1 The Abyss
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mind Twist
1 Yawgmoth's Will

1 Dismantling Blow
1 Balance

1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Obliterate (I probably should have cut this for a Zuran Orb)

1 Regrowth

1 Elemental Augury (YEAH BABY!)

SB:
4 REB
3 Swords to Plowshares
2 Hydroblast
1 Zuran Orb
1 Timetwister
1 Jester's Cap
1 Seal of Cleansing
1 CoP: Red
1 CoP: Blue

My current version of Dark Keeper is as follows:

4 Tundra
4 Underground Sea
4 Wasteland
4 City of Brass
2 Tropical Island
1 Strip Mine
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Tolarian Academy

5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Zuran Orb

4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
2 Fact or Fiction
2 Morphling
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Timetwister
1 Stroke of Genius

4 Duress
1 Diabolic Edict
1 The Abyss
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mind Twist
1 Yawgmoth's Will

1 Balance
1 Dismantling Blow

1 Regrowth

SB:
3 Hydroblast
3 Oath of Druids
2 Gaea's Blessing
2 Swords to Plowshares
1 Moat
1 Seal of Cleansing
1 Jester's Cap
1 CoP: Red
1 Ivory Mask

I'm trying out the idea of siding into an Oath deck against mono-blue and Stompy (just because I have so many slots I can remove against Stompy.) If that doesn't work, I'll remove the 5 cards and add 2 Counterspells, 1 CoP: Black, 1 CoP: Green, and 1 Masticore

But if you're looking for ideas with mono-blue with black, check out Old School Expulsion/Truth and Justice/Veritas et Aequitas.
