Hola,

Here's my 1st Report from Origins, there were 4 (5 actaully that I know about) Type 1 events at Origins, I was able to make the 2nd and 3rd.

Here's the setup - I was playing Kastle's 4 color Sligh deck, which I'd been having great fun and success with at our local store, adjusting the sideboard for some other stuff. Reference Decklist -

Darwin Kastle
4C Sligh

Main Deck
1 Seal of Fire
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Incinirate
4 Goblin Cadets
4 Jackal Pup
4 Gorilla Shaman
2 Cursed Scroll
3 Frenetic Efreet
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Balance
1 Seal of Cleansing
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
4 Mishra's Factory
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
3 City of Brass
4 Volcanic Island
4 Badlands
4 Plateau

My sideboard was:
1 Seal of Cleansing
4 Pyroblast
2 Swords to Plowshares (foil! w00t!)
2 Diabolic Edict
4 Pillage
1 Cop:red
1 Tormod's Crypt

Before the event started I convinced my friend Doug Procunier to play as well, by loaning him my lotus for his Pox deck.
He was upset when I showed him the ruling on Rack so I convinced him to play Nether Spirits in addition to Chimeric Idol and Cursed Scroll. It worked great for him, he got 2nd =/ (He also took 2nd in the IBC PTQ on Sat.)

Also playing was Chad Caudell, who's deck I played at GP Detriot, "The Truck" which is Erhnam, Seredib, Juggernaut beatdown.
(btw, Chad top 8'd in the Amateur Champ's)

On to the report - Plays are mostly skipped you can blame all the beer for missing details ^^;

There was 24 ppl in the event. 6 rounds no top 8. I ended up 6th place over all.

Round 1 - Katie Crist ( 1st tourney ever, bad Suicide Black with Hatred, no Negators)

The long and short of this one was, I just cooked her dudes and killed her with pups both games, it was a really friendly
couple of games, and I wished her well after the games. 2-0 me tho.

Round 2 - Dan (doh, lost the name here and deck notes.. )

Can't find the details here, but I had 20 life at the end of game 1, and 16 from CoB damage game 2. Apparently I just
wrecked him.

Round 3 - Steven Holeyfield (U/B Masticore/Morphling/Mishra's Factories etc..)

Game 1 I rolled him with double pup turn one, and that was it. Games 2 and 3 came down to Insane Fact or Fictions, with
Lotus/Will, Ancestrall/FoF etc, happening in both games =( I lost to broken Yawg Wills and clean play on his part. Steve
ended up in 1st place for the tourney.

Round 4 - Chad Caudell (The Truck, description above)

Game 1 saw him, paste me so badly with a Armadillo's Cloaked Ernham on turn 2 it wasn't funny. he ended up with 24 life, the
turn before he killed me. I boarded in the extra creature kill (swords/edicts), and games 2 and 3, ended up with my wasteing, striping
and burning every thing he played. I killed him both games taking only City of Brass damage, with him never having more than 2 permanents
in play. He'd played me a bunch locally unsideboarded and usually killed me, after the tourney he wanted a rematch, So we
played again sideboarded, and the next 5! games when the same as game 2/3. Apparently, I just wreck him after boarding. ^_^

Round 5 - Scott Kasliner (Mono U, Back to Basics Main)

Both games here were his completely, as he got Mox/Lotus/Core or Morphling and B2B in both games by about turn 4. I got
my ass handed to me. He ended up 3rd in the event.

Round 6 - Noah Wagner (G/B Blastoderms etc.)

Games 1 and 3 were all about killing him with Pups, and wasteing his early dual lands. Game 2 I got killed by turn 1 Blastoderm off
Black lotus and Bayou. Followed up by some other damage that I didn't note well enough. =/

YEAH!! Let's hear it for the U/B guy!!

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 08:05 am:

FYI: The U/B guy is Nameless and he wasy playing OSE.

By Boltbait, the Master of the Hunt (Boltbait) on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 10:06 am:

Nameless and I ran into each other at Origins and didn't even know it! I played the Nether Void deck against you on Friday. Unfortunately, I ended up finishing *9th* both days and missed out on prizes :(.

By Dooglestyle on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:47 pm:

The Nether Void deck? I was the guy who played Pox and I think I beat you. That was a lucky match for me with the quick Nether Spirit Beatdown and your lifetotal low due to Necropotence. Nether Spirit is sooo good in type 1. hehehehe. I can't believe how good I did with the Pox deck. I must say that ALL of my Type 1 opponents played EXTREMELY well. Especially the guy playing Sligh. He almost crushed me, but luckily I had maindeck Sheltered Valley!! I did so good and had such a fun time with it that I even traded for an Unlimited Mox Jet on Sunday!!! Type 1 rocks!

My motto for Origins 2001:
"Helping out little kids.
Making the world a better place.
Tooling F***ers with Pox!"

By Boltbait, the Master of the Hunt (Boltbait) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 08:37 am:

Yep, early Nether Spirit both games=Dead Nether Void player :. Did my jaw drop when you poxed for the first time? That was quite the nasty surprise after I dropped an early Necro.

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 09:41 am:

NAMELESS! Dude, that's freakin' hilarious!

He tries to call his deck "Underdark" but it's the Old School Expulsion with more Moxen, a Tinker, and a Karn, if I remember correctly.

This explains why he hasn't been around lately. :P

By Elric, the Addiction King (Elric) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 10:20 am:

Dammit, I asked quite loudly a couple times if anyone was from Bdominia =P ya punks!

heh, anyway, it was still quite fun, and that's the 2nd time I've played a tourney with Boltbait and missed talking to ya.^^;

By Boltbait, the Master of the Hunt (Boltbait) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 11:57 am:

I can't believe we all missed each other. Whatever happened to the T-shirt thing anyway? At least that would have made it easy to find each other. Heh, I wonder what percentage of T1 tournament players either check BD before they go or are regulars. Our judge even checks the site.

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 12:24 pm:

I stand out at large events because I'm the only who showered. Look for the clean guy-- that's me.

By Boltbait, the Master of the Hunt (Boltbait) on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 03:08 pm:

Actually, most of the people playing were well kept and showered, a definite departure from most prerealeses and PTQs.

By TracerBullet on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 03:12 pm:

A definate sign of T1

By Ferrismonk on Thursday, July 12, 2001 - 12:10 am:

lol, definitely about the shower thing. I was playing T1 at origins too, but didn't go to all of them. I was in the Thursday T1, anybody else play there? I got 6th with Void.

By Boltbait, the Master of the Hunt (Boltbait) on Thursday, July 12, 2001 - 08:42 am:

I played on Thurs and Fri. Which Void player were you? I think there were 3 of us on Thursday. There was me (only Void player with Factories in the deck), an older guy, and one other guy.

By Leshrac on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 01:58 am:

You need clean hands to play expensive cards. ;-)
