By Matt D'Avanzo, the Sylvan Librarian (Matt) on Sunday, July 22, 2001 - 10:53 pm:

It's cancelled. They decided to do an IBC constructed instead. There will still be a type I tounrey at 4 o'clock though. I told them that people were coming from out of state to play and the head judge did say that if a bunch of type I people showed up they would hold a second grudge match in type I. Supposedly they might do sa proper type I in August.

In any case I hope you all will still be coming for the normal, weekly type I--we can have quite a large (and high-quality) tourney if you all show up Be saure to bitch at Neutral Ground for screwing with our type I Grudge Match too.

Oh and (not to be anal, because I'm sure I have numerous typos all the time, BUT...) excuse the spelling in the post and lack of an apostrophe in the title.

--Matt

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Monday, July 23, 2001 - 11:17 am:

Yeah, TIC will be there regardless. I need to leave the state for a couple days no matter what.

I will bitch a ton. :P I want 10 matches so I can get a Vintage rating. :P

By Matt D'Avanzo, the Sylvan Librarian (Matt) on Monday, July 23, 2001 - 11:38 am:

You aren't getting one from me. My 18-something rating has lost about 70 points over the last month. Mike Pustilnik still has like 2000 something--he can spare a few.

--Matt

By Mako Satou on Monday, July 23, 2001 - 11:41 am:

That is really unfortunate that they would cancel it I guess i will be staying at the beach that weekend :)

Well, my car died, so unless I can find another by Friday, or someone to drive me up to NYC, I don't think I can make it. :(

Anyone know of a car for sale under a grand in south/central Jersey?

Can't take the train?

It's not THAT bad. This helps eliminate the number of JSS'ers and other savage cheaters. If we get enough maybe we can have a cut to the top 8, although I really did want it to be a 24k event so that I could get my rating above 1640...

By Negator on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - 11:59 am:

(IP: 152.163.204.203)

Guys, sorry to remind you, but they would not make the 4 o'clock tourney a grinder for Grudge Match cuz they have a exactly 32 slots to give out, and cannot slip in an extra. However, the good news is, steve the coordinator said that BDM moved the IBC forward cuz it will be more popular, so the T1 was pushed back. There may well still be a T1 grinder, albiet later on.

Negator

PS: Matt, Legend is so detached from the real world that he didn't even realize that you girlfriend was your girlfriend. He just thought it was a prize english student or something. Talk about a one track mind!

By Matt Boccio on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - 01:42 pm:

Good News, The Grudge Match Grinder for T1 is on Sunday the 29th the pushed the IBC grinder ahead a day and will now have the T1 grinder. Hope to see many of you there.

By JP 'Polluted' Meyer, the Archivist (Jpmeyer) on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - 05:17 pm:

So basically, they figured that more people would want to do IBC so they pushed IBC back because everyone would be away at GP Columbus?

I will cut through them like a thresher through wheat, except instead of grain I will be harvesting souls!

JP, the nearest train staion to my house is like a 40 min drive away. New Jersey has ass for public transportation.

But, if I can find another car by Friday, I'll be there.

I await you, my petty toys. What I mark, dies. There is no exception, there is no escape. You are next.

Also, my friend, the irrepresible Legend, has won 2 of the last 4 tourneys at NG, going 8-0 and 6-1 in games, respectively. We shall grant no quarter.

By Matt D'Avanzo, the Sylvan Librarian (Matt) on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 12:25 am:

>>>PS: Matt, Legend is so detached from the real world

Perhaps all that time in 'Nam? Sorry, to me he REALLY looks like a young Christopher Walken and I saw "Deer Hunter" the night before that tourney (coincidence?). It's just that the Russian Roulette has been replaced with a game of magic. BtW, damn the person that created Back to Basics for all eternity!

>>>He just thought it was a prize english student or something. Talk about a one track mind!

Oh yeah, thats a sure-fire way to kill a student's crush on a teacher: take them to a magic tourney! Something for all us teachers on the Mill to remember should the situation arise I guess. I guess if they are REALLY infatuated don't shave/shower and wear a D&D T-shirt.

No sweat BtW, and she's not my girlfriend technically. To spare the mill (Rakso would kill me and J.P. would get a good laugh) my long-winded, ideology and profanity laced dissertation entitled "Monogamy: Perfectly Natural or B.S. Societal Constraint?" I will just say she's a very close friend and we date.

As for Ahzarieh and Team Iron hat, I would love it if they came and challenged me, and my title belt of multiple T8 finishes in formats both more challenging and entertaining than this stagnant pond of rotting, dying disgusting, old fish. I may not even play your ludicrous format, but I will annihilate you just the same, if Legend doesn't get to you first. See you on the other side, where I am the Immortal King.

By The Maxx,. the Guru of Foolishness (Maxx) on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 02:26 am:

Matt, monogamy is not natural. It is downright unheard of in top predators, which we are. I think it stems more from human's inability to truly share, and their possesiveness of even each other. But this is WAY off topic.

And Negator give it a rest. It's like you're a Satanist on a soap box in the Vatican. You're not accomplishing anything by yelling at the Pope.

The Maxx

By Spin13 (Spin13) on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 03:08 am:

But its funny? And damn right I can't share! And damn, I still can't make it to NY. Not that I'd have any money to enter anyway. There is a tourny in CT for anybody interested (Waterbury, I believe). Its T2, but the prize is most definatly fitting for players here: Beta Ruby. Yummy. If only I had T2 cards....to anybody wishing to make the travels (I probably wont be there myself) there is also a T1 there at 1. If anybody is interested mail me and I'll look up the date and location. Just figured I'd share, since a Beta Ruby doesn't make Waterbury THAT far from NYC. :)

There Neutral Ground goes again canceling it then saying they will have it? Which is it? I told my friends i'd go with them to my friends beach house. I don't want to cut my beach weekend short and then there is no tournament. This is anohter reason I don't like Neutral Ground they can't even commit and keep to their own published schedule once they print it there should be no cancelations. It sounds like it would be cool to go to but I have my dislikes of Neutral Ground. My bf is interested in going tho and I might get more of the LIgumi to come too.

Ai ya you guys can be a bunch of babies sometimes please stop with the insults everything is opinion and doesn't mean much does it?

Matt: If I do make it I'll have to meet u and your gf :) Don't know many other girls who play magic other then a couple I knew in college. Especially competitively.

Rakso: Is the negator the same person? why posting ips? it has me confused cause I post from work, my friends places and my place so I have different ips, how do u make accounts I never figure that out?

Nevyn--

Put it to you this way, if you were someone labelled you as a democrat (and you were affiliated with some independant party) simply because you voted for Gore instead of Bush wouldn't you want to clarify since such labels tend to identify you with a certain philosophy.

By Azhrei (Azhrei) on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 04:40 pm:

Dudes, you don't know how close I was to putting up campaign posters for class president that said "Vote for JP: He swings with infinitely tight men." However, since a grand total of two people would get that (one of those being me,) it was instead changed to "Vote for JP: He is an infinitely tight miser."

I love how Rakso 1984'ed the subject of this thread.

By Negator on Thursday, July 26, 2001 - 01:36 am:

(IP: 205.188.192.46)

God, this format just brings out teh worst in people. In type 2, or limited, people make decks, play them, and move on. They don't just masticate the same info over and over again. " what do you all think of new old new flesh stompy deck?". Threads like that make this site pathetic.

By Matt D'Avanzo, the Sylvan Librarian (Matt) on Thursday, July 26, 2001 - 02:28 am:

I have to seriously disagree. In type II there is a tremendous lack of innovative deckbuilding and just about everyone knows card for card what's in the other persons deck as soon as you see the first land or play the person plops down because just about everyone copies decks mindlessly from the net.

Hell, here in type I even decks of the same archetype look and feel nothing alike. Compare my Keeper, Az's, Milton's (although he's ditched it now), Nameless (ditto), and Mako's. Then look at Mike Pustilnik's and go "What?"

People in type II bother me in that they have no sense of attachment to their decks. Most everyone plays the deck to beat or the deck that beats it. In type I we all have our own style and the diehard proponents of a deck will play it no matter what. I was playing Keeper when NG was a field of total Necro for example (I discovered very quickly that Compost ROCKED against Necro).

Same old ideas? A lot of creative deckbuilding has gone on here recently. J.P. invented a really cool mono-red tubbies (and the patriot, but I don't like the patriot really), tedv and I have been (at the very least) totally revamping Academy to make it viable post-restriction, Az ditched the Franchise for the 100% different OSE, Milton has a bizzare and probably very good Ophidian-Keeper deck, and BBS got slightly more intelligent with Merchant Scrolls and Wastelands. Doesn't sound quite as stagnant as you make it out to be. I don't like everything that gets posted here, but hey, I don't involve myself in every thread.

In Type I a lot of our decks are much more complex (my big four are Keeper, Void, ReapLace, and Academy...excluding Void show me a type II deck that is 1/2 or even 1/4 as complex) than type II decks and when a person plays the same deck over the years they get a real sense of that deck. I'm not bragging (or just bragging) that our decks are more interesting, but simply we have a lot more tha haggle over in terms of casrd choices (face it you work with a one or a few sets at a times...we use 'em all).

You ought to know that I have no personal problems with Legend (so don't get all touchy and see it as an attack):

The two of you are undeniably inexperienced in type I. What type one you have playted--you bring a type II mentality to it. When you deck that, for whatever reason, you consider YOURS watch how petty and agonizing the card choices become. If Legend is still playing the same deck in a year watch how he'll AGONIZE over taking out one counterspell for a one-off Dissipate (I know it sucks, just an example) or something and say how much better the deck runs. To which you will likely respond: "StF up! It's one frikin' card that does almost the same thing!" Of course it is, but I can immediately tell the difference between playing my Keeper deck with 3 Wastes/3 Trops and 4 Wastes/2 Trops. We tend to get like that you know. Legend is on his way too. I can tell already...

I DO agree they should unrestrict Necro--it would be great for the envirionment.

--Matt

By obithrawn on Thursday, July 26, 2001 - 02:45 am:

The cool thing about type 1 players is they do the "I switched *ghasp* 4 cards in my deck today, I was feeling dangerous" then proceede to giggle incessantly and dance around until someone plays them.

(I am quite guilty of this myself, even though my t1 enviroment can be described as extended with hymns)

I mean... here's a hard one guys... J-E-F-F. Or maybe I should name myself after a magic card.... How about Elven Merfolk?
