Round 1 Versus Yan (Negator on BDominia) Playing Sligh

Game 1
I get a nice fast opening hand with a mox, academy, sol ring fact or
fiction to get Mishra's which I use to block pups and pump itself
to 3/3 to survive. I use Teferi's response to protect it from
burn and then draw into a mana drain. I drop a masticore and
he concedes.

Life Totals
Me 20, 18, 16
Him 20, 18, 12, concede

Game 2
I have a nice opening hand with a library and a cop read, but he
gets out an early scroll and starts scrolling me but I manage to
get out a Zuran Orb and then draw a keg to nix his scrolls. I then
bring out masticore and smack him once and then drop a morphling
and he concedes

Life Totals
Me 19, 16, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 7, 5, 3, 5, 3
Yan 20, 16 concede

Match Win 2-0

Round 2 Versus Eric Rouge (Redman on BDominia) Playing Parfait

Game 1
I get a nice Mox Mox Land Timetwister opening draw to establish
permanent advantage. He gets a land tax but I manage to counter
his threats of Masticore and sacred mesa and I beat him down with
Mishras and a shaman and later Morphling

Life Totals
Me 20, 17, 15, 13, 10, 8
Eric 20, 19, 18, 15, 14, 9, 4, 0

Game 2
I get a first turn Aura Fracture and then I stripe his plains
and counter his land tax. I beat him down with Mishras.

Life Totals
Me 20, 19, 18, 16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10 (City hurts ALOT)
Eric: 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 7, 5, 3, 0

Match Win 2-0

Round 3 Versus John Playing Suicide Black

Game 1
I manage to get a Mishra's to block one of his Sacromancy tokens
he lays a hyppie which I manage to get rid of with my main deck KEG
and then he hangs back for awhile I drop abyss to get rida all his
critters and he drops a scroll and starts to
scroll me but I get out a Zuran Orb to stall till I can d-blow his
scroll he dies to his two sacromacy enchantments :)

Life Totals
Me 20, 18, 16, 12, 10, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 4, 2, 1
John 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0

Game 2
He gets an awesome draw with a duress and a necro first turn
destroys my and and then drops 1 negator followed by a second
negator and I die very fast.

Life Totals
Me: 20, 19, 14, 4, 0
John: 20, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5

Game 3
I get out an early keg and keg away his scroll
I make a bonehead play and vamp tutor for a moat and play
it off lotus. I should have gotten abyss. He gets out a
necro but I manage to get cop black to stop his two hyppies
He necro's down to 1 and all I have to do is get morphling
to kill him. I mess up when I yag will instead of tutoring
for morphling I play the Keg again to get rida his hyppies
it would have een an ok play if time wasn't called but
time was called and I don't manage to get morphling out to
kill him in the 5 turns.

Life Totals
Me: 20, 18, 16, 15, 13, 12, 11, 10, 6
John: 20, 17, 15, 14, 9, 6, 3, 1

Match Draw 1-1-1

Round 4 Versus Christian Playing Keeper

Game 1
I have no land or mox in my hand so I have to paris to 6 where I
draw a hand of all land and a mana drain. Parising to 5
is a bad idea so I keep the hand. I get mind twisted with
counterback up and he plays a morphling. I get a zuran orb out
but he eventually kills me anyway after I eat all my land :(

Life Totals
Me: 20, 19, 18, 15, 10, 5, 7, 2, 4, 2, 0
Christian: 20. 19

Game 2
I get a no land or mox in my hand again so I paris to 6 again.
I go first with a Mox pearl, Mox Saphire, Sol Ring, Balance
opening hand :) 2 cardcds in hand. I lay a morphling next
turn and begin to beatdown. He Balances and I play a miner
and eat all his land and beat him down with the miner and a
Mishra.

Game 3
I get a hand with one land and then I have to paris again curses
I get a hand with lands moxes and a force which I keep. I go to
wasteland his land and he uses teferi's response which I force
and then he forces my force and draws 2, he drops a morphling
and has no cards in hand. I draw a mystical and intend to mystical
for a balance at the end of his turn but he draws a timewalk and
kills me :(

Life Totals

Round 5 Versus Ray Lambert playing Keeper.

His record is 2-2 and I'm 2-1-1. We look at the points and
even if he wins he can't make the top 8 so he agrees to
concede to me which is very nice of him.
We play a game for fun but I don't remember much of it since
I'm really tired at this point. All I remember is Teferi's
response happens when I try to waste a land and I get out
drawn in cards and out countered and he lays morphling

Top 8 Round 1 Versus Ed (Legend) Playing Legend Blue

The matchup that I was hoping I wouldn't want to play.
Don't remember too much other then back to the basics
owned me.

Round 1
We lay land for a while and then there is a counter
war over back to the basics which I lose and he
then lays morphling and kills me.

Round 2
We lay land for awhile and he lays a back to the basics
I lost the counter war, I then later try to lay an aura
fracture but I lose that counterwar too.

Comments
Not to bad I should have won that game versus mono black
where I had a draw cause time was called but I played to catiously
also made alot of bone headed plays today cause I hadn't slept
on Friday night cause I was playtesting with Matt, Eric and Ray
and then on Saturday night I went out partying till late.

Props:
Ray Lambert for conceding to me when he could not make top 8
Dan (Cooberp) for the back to the basics Tech
Matt D'Alvanzo and Eric Wilkinson for the playtest and deck help
Mako Satou for the Masticore tech
Ed (Legend) for winning the tourney

Slops:
Me for not getting enough sleep.
Yan (Negator) for being really annoying

All and all it was a good tourney.

Deck Comments and Changes
I was getting alot of no mana source hands or 1 mana
source hands all day.

I think 2 fact, stroke, ancestral, sylvan is to little
card draw. I need a 3rd fact, was getting out card drawn
alot. Don't know how to fit it.

Teferi's response is really good it helped me as well
as boned me quite a bit.

Main Deck keg is good versus aggro but it sucks versus control
destroying your own moxes is bad and they can play around
the keg at 5 either by sacrificing a morphling or d-blowing
it. I think it might go back to sideboard.

Sideboard won't have any changes yet amazingly enough
I used all my sideboard cards this tournament. :)

Wow, round 3 you got seriously janked on the time call, that sux.

And round 4 also blew chunks, topdecking a timwalk, WTF are the odds of that?!?!

Good job for makeing top 8, and props to the guy who coneded because he knew he couldnt make top 8 anyways.

Have you ever considered running Seal of Removal in place of D-Blow? A first turn seal will deal with B2B.

By Marcial on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 01:00 am:

Um last I checked, it's 60-to-1 odds of topdecking timewalk =)

Sorry.. you just left that one wide open.

Yeah I guess I deserved that one, wasnt thinking :)

By Slim on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 01:15 am:

Actually the odds of topdecking a timewalk are much better than that. You draw 7 cards initially, and who knows how many more with a keeper-control deck. If he had already laid a Morphling, chances are he had drawn a large portion of his deck...making the odds closer to 30 to 1. Still pretty bad, but better.

Sorry...you just left that one wide open. :)

By Big Blue on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 03:24 am:

Actually the PRACTICAL odds of ending up with a Time Walk in a topdecking contest are much better than that: You can either topdeck Merchant Scroll, Tutor, Timewalk and with a bit of luck you fetch one after FoF, Stroke, Ancestral or Twister. Or should it be in your graveyrad you could get it with Regrowth, Yagwill or Twister. So it is better than 1:10, I'd say. Not that rare, but still annyoing.

Sorry...you just left that one wide open. :)

Nice report - I also believe that 3 FoF should be played in Keeper. I'd play it instead of either Keg or Mox Monkey, depending what you fear more.

By Jelal (Jelal) on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 01:27 pm:

Actually it's more like 1:11 because Merchant Scroll can't fetch Time Walk (unless you're planning to fetch an Ancestral or something and get the Walk from that...), and Mystical/Vampiric wouldn't've helped.

Sorry...you just left that one wide open. :)

And great report. I agree with Big Blue that Keg or Shaman should be a FoF (the Keg seems less important in your metagame).
