The good: I won the type I UK & Irish Championships held at GenCon UK with twister.dec (going undefeated with 6-0-2)
The bad: I got my deck stolen
The ugly: I'll have to buy everything again

Full report to come, but here is a preview...

Top 8 after 5 rounds was (37 players):
- 3 keepers (among them Goldfish)
- 1 Pox with white
- 1 Mono-blue
- 1 multicolour Worshop deck with Goblin Welder
- 1 mono-red beatdown.
- my twister.dec

I beat the worshop deck in the quarters, mono-blue in the semis and Keeper in the finals, all 2-0 :)

But you forget to mention that you went 1-1 and unfinished against me :-)...

Hehehe... The first game you got really lucky, I think I could have gone 2-0 against you...

For those who care I played keeper and ended 5th...

Cheers

uhm...how can a Mono-U be defeated by this deck?...

City of Solitude (1 main, 1 in board)
Red Elemental Blast (2 main, 2 in board)

And Fastbond to be faster. The one with more mana wins.

Back to Basics is a problem, hence the 2 Seal of Cleansing in the board.

Have you tried to protect a Morphling with City of Solitude out? :)

By shadowblade on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 10:59 am:

yes, simply not casting it. And countering the City.

By Goldfish, the Lich Lord (Goldfish) on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 11:56 am:

PS. I destroyed 3 mono blue decks with my keeper...

Round 1 : 2 0 1 (WDL)
Round 2 : 2 0 0
Round 3 : 2 0 1
Round 4 : 1 0 1 Against Carl we never got to game 3
Round 5 : I.D. against sligh

After that where the finals so I ID'd to get there... First 3 rounds where all MonoBlue, but I relly think a good Keeper with a player that knows the deck can beat monoblue any time... MonoBlue is just too inflexible...

Goldfish

By dave on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 05:25 pm:

I woz that mono blue player and have to confess I haven't played t1 for 2 years and my play sucked,I had no real idea of what was in most decks and had never even playtested the mono blue.
I'm afraid it will take me a while to find my feet again, but I can't fault Carl's play and attitude (you too Goldfish) congrats guys!

Hey Dave,

Drop me a mail, I believe I gave you my card...

Gencon was great in a sense the the players all were very polite and showed good sportmanship...

Let's not talk about the judges...

Cheers
Goldfish

By Jase on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 04:38 am:

Goldfish,

Lets clarify that one..."lets not talk about the judges of the T1 Nationals!!".

The judges for the rest of Gencon were great, especially those on the Grand Prix!! :-)
On another note it was great to actually meet some of the people on here!

Regards

Jase

By Goldfish, the Lich Lord (Goldfish) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 05:04 am:

Yes true... It was only 2 people... No offense ment to the other ones !

By dave on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 09:43 am:

Just to clarify further, the judges at the t1 nationals at GC U.K. were nothing short of a total disgrace, one in particular who was taken "off duty" after some complaints. For me it (along with some decks "missing") sullied the memory of my first T1 in 2 years.

By Gnu, the Lightbringer (Gnu) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 04:09 pm:

Congratz Carl, I lost to you in the quarter -( (that would make me the tubbie'guy:P)

Also I played a really bad deck, as I couldn't get my hands on a walk, Jet & Saphire (I played a sub-optimal welder/tubbies, made 1½ before the tournie started...)

Also the judges sucked a LOT, 2/3 of them were drunk (atleast)

Goldfish I don't remember you, what's your real name ?
Great to see some BD'ers there though -)

I lost to Keeper (manascrewed) & Turboland (Carl, I couldn't draw SB & he went off really quick!)

A good tournament, even though I didn't got any sleep from Thursday 04 AM - Friday 07 AM (the tournie started 21 Thursday = me REALLY tired)

But I'm surprised my deck got into T8, as my manabase was really shaky (lost me atleast 1 round) (was 3. after the swiss, ended 5. - 8.) But I blame the shops as they closed way to early & I couldn't get the last cards for my deck -/

But I traded(sold) a lot on the Con, & it was a great trip... my friend ended 2. btw (with control) but Carl played the best (deck) & deserved the win.

Congrats again -)

By Goldfish, the Lich Lord (Goldfish) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 04:11 pm:

Gnu,

My name is Luk Schoonaert, I played Keeper and was also top 8... Carl's compagnion from Belgium... After the tournament Iplayed some fun games with my latest version of TurboLich which some people were watching... I never played against you though...

Cheers
Goldfish

By Gnu, the Lightbringer (Gnu) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 04:30 pm:

I went 4-1 in swiss & lost in the quarter:

1. round
Win against a foil angel-deck (the guy played with it for fun, respect)
(my mana screwed me totally 1 game, & he played turn 4 and turn 5 serra angel!)

2. round
I win against a combo-enchantress deck, really weird deck.
Game 1 I mulligan to 5 & WIN! (because he played 2 Vineyards!!!)
Then he goes off with his Killer Bees combo & kill me the turn before he dies...
Game 3 I kill him -)

3. round
Keeper, game 1 I get a Volcanin Island & Mox Emerald as only mana Source (yes I even mulliganed twice)
game 2 I hold a hand with Mana Crypt & Workshop, he kills my land... I die to my Crypt... didn't get anymore land either-(

4. round
I overrun a slighdeck in both games... who said sligh was quickly ?

5. round
After the time was called, we was stil in game 1!!! And after like 20 minutes I kill him (Topdecking Y. Will is good) (only our 3 extra round!!!)
He played a survival-deck with Tradewind & Ashen Gouls & Serendib's ! Strange deck, but not that bad... Also notice that after our game his library had 4 FoW's & 8 P9's + lands -)

1/4 finals
Game 1 I just get manascrewed (also mulliganed) Carl goes off...
Game 2 I play a 1. turn critter, fail to draw a land to support my Duress & tutor -/
Carl goes off...

I got some jap. Chronicles Boosters for it though -) So it was worth it...
Also sorry to hear that you lost your deck Carl-(

By Gnu, the Lightbringer (Gnu) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 04:35 pm:

Goldfish, I think I can recall you -)
But I was very (repeat: VERY) tired at the time, but was it you and Carl that discussed with the judge when the game started (the judge said when the first card was played... even though you've drewed your hand!)

By Goldfish, the Lich Lord (Goldfish) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 05:05 pm:

Yeah that's us.. we were tired too man, no sleep for 40 hous but it was fun :-) I'm the one with the red pikey hair

By Jase on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 05:40 pm:

Gnu, does that make you Casper from Denmark? I`m actually able to put faces to names now!

By Gnu, the Lightbringer (Gnu) on Thursday, September 06, 2001 - 04:12 pm:

Yep, I'm Casper from Denmark -)

Darn you beat me... 40 hours without sleep, I only had 27-30 -/

But my friend Sonny (NOT the guy in the finals, this guy borrowed a foil MonoU deck from a judge, really small guy) didn't sleep for like 48+ !

By Andy Petkovics on Thursday, September 06, 2001 - 04:39 pm:

Getting ur deck stolen is tough. I got my Pox deck stolen (4 Scrolls, 4 foiled Rituals, 4 Beta Hyppies n' stuff), all gone. I know its nothing compared to a power 9 set in your deck but I know the feeling. I hope you recover soon enough, Carl. Congrats at UK!
