By Barktooth Warbeard (Barktooth) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 10:12 am:

Yesterday evening I created a Zoo deck but decided not to go with red which is normally in Zoo for wheel in order to play Black which I feel is better in the online meta-game than red. The other two colours i had already decided on.

As i said the deck is currently 8-0 in games and 4-0 in matches, so it must be doing soomething right!

The sideboard is a bit :( and I would really appreciate some help with that.

I dunno if psi-blasts are the best card for that slot. I think swords to plowshares and windfall should both make an appearance somewhere in the deck.

By Fransisco dAnconia on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 12:21 pm:

Would Seal of Clensing be better than Disenchant? I personally would have chose it because it won't be swept away by either Windfall or Timetwister, giving you a potential for card advantage that Disenchant would not. There just seems little reason to want to have to hold the card in your hand, and have to cast it when the threat arrises rather than at any given turn when you have the available mana.

By Barktooth Warbeard (Barktooth) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 12:28 pm:

Good point, the disenchants are now seals.

Oh yeah and the deck just won 2-0 again...

Meridian Psi Blast got the kill :)

Keep the opinions coming.

Where's the Standstill's?

By Barktooth Warbeard (Barktooth) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 12:37 pm:

I haven't tested them as of yet.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 01:30 pm:

I think Seals are better due to Twister, but I think you could use Windfall and other things that replace Wheel of Fortune.

Also, did I not see the Will and Balance? :)

I also think Dibs can be replaced with something else.

I don't think you need Dibs with Negators in there.

By FeverDog (Feverdog) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 02:36 pm:

26 Mana is a tad high, you could definetly live with 24 or 25 at the most. You NEED to play Will, its too broken not to-Balance on the other hand is a tough call in this type of deck but i think you should run it. Im not really sure i would call this deck "zoo" but at 5-0-who cares what you call it? :)

By Dozer (Dozer) on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 03:04 pm:

I do agree on the Will, but I recently saw a Zoo playing without it and still doing well.
The mana seems okay to me because it's only 20 colored sources.
There could be one less Serendib and one less Negator to open two slots for Balance and Will, but I would never cut the 'Dibs entirely for the reason that they are the sometimes crucial flyers.
Other than that, I really like this build.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

I am well aware of the brokeness of will however i have never really had a game long enough for it to be of any use. However in a long game it could be v.good maybe I should put it in the board, what do you think?

I am definately gonna see about getting a windfall in there.

Is balance neccessary? I know it seems like a stupid question but is it? I don't know about this one...

Cut dibs are you MAD!?!? They are totally amazing.

The deck is 10-0 not 5-0 :)

Also I just have to tell you about this opening:

Land, Mox, Lotus, Negator, time walk. Land Negator...attack for 5. What a hand!

It was a pretty risky move but well worth it just for fun factor!

Has anyone done any extensive testing of Standstill's as of yet?

I think they just scream "play me in zoo". But what to drop is a question as well. But loseing 1 creature to draw into another couple and possibly a broken card like recall, yawgwill, ect... You get the point, and it just makes your creatures all the more dangerous to deal with.

By pault on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 08:33 pm:

Barktooth,

Why don't you test it in a BD mini, lets see how it does there. Winning games on apprentice against random people (even those in #BDCHAT) is pretty meaningless without some solid tournament showings.

Just my .02 cents.

By Benson on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 09:14 pm:

Been testing Standstill in zoo for the past weekk. It fits perfectly in the curve of the deck as a typical draw would go:

Turn: random land, mox, savanah lion
Turn 2: random land, savannah lion, play something else to draw counter
Turn 3: Serendib, standstill

I'll even cast it turn two, after getting two savannah lions out or something as it's inevitable that they'll have to cast keg, which means *boom* 3 more cards for me.
Opponents are getting smarter- countering it now like they would an ancestral or time walk, leaving me to cast more threats. I tend to use it as a set-up for Serendib, meddling mage, timetwister, or yawg will. The key seems to be that has to be put in an aggressive deck like zoo, or patriot, not a slow reactive deck like BBS or even keeper.

Didn't I beat you with my fucked up R/G monstrosity? Rancored Erhnam, right?

By Redman, Relentless Leader of Scrubs (Redman) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 02:06 am:

The problem I see here with Standstill is that it will be hard to take stuff out. I like the build though...I haven't tried much in the way of W/U/B Zoo. Also, Balance might not be so great. It dosen't seem neccesary to remove other stuff for it, I don't think. I'd try to fit Standstill first.

By Redman, Relentless Leader of Scrubs (Redman) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 02:07 am:

And maybe a few Swords in the SB against random huge creatures?

By Barktooth Warbeard (Barktooth) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 11:04 am:

Matt the great: My apologies I only bat you 2-1 sorry :) so the deck is 12-1 in matches and 6-0 in matches my bad :)

Pault: I do not play against scrubs in apprentice :( unless absolutely forced I have played all my games bar 1 in #bdchat. There is life in #bdmini!?!

Redman: I have longed for Stp in the sidebord Matt's Ernham deck :)(note the one game loss !!SHOCK HORROR!)however that isn't a really a common match up and stupid burn is and kegs are an absolute must against them.

I will be posting a revised decklist ASAP but keep those opininions flooding in!

No, one game was a tie, remember? We're 1-1-1. You won one game (forget how), I won one with rancored erhnam, and one game we tied when you Psionic Blasted me at 1 life.

By FeverDog (Feverdog) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 02:00 pm:

If he blasts you, i think you die first, like with a Reaver. Im not 100% sure though.

By mepersonthing on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 03:56 pm:

No, the damage occurs instantaneously I believe.
Reaver is different because it's a triggered effect.

By Barktooth Warbeard (Barktooth) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 04:30 pm:

LOL @ Matt the Great yes sorry i remember when I Psi blasted you, that was funny:)

In that case I am 11-1-1 still not bad :)

Sad thing is I don't have the updated list yet I've been doing a MAJOR English homework:(

Cheers, Barktooth
