This was the second mox tourny held in Waterbury. The first was a T2 only, this one sported a T1 and T2 both for a mox.
An unfortunate day for me as I showed up late for the first round. I agreed to be entered in the tourny with a first round loss. Additionaly I could only be entered in the system as a bye giving me 3 points, which were deducted manually, and pitting me against players that had better records than myself.

Here's what I was playing. Comments and suggestions are welcome. It's been posted before, but some minor changes have been made.

Round 4
Me vs Andrew playing BBS
If it was not for Force Spikes, I would have probally had two of these games.

Game 1 Andrew pulled a Force spike on my Mox which rendered the tolarian in my hand usless I was slowed down by this and andrew was able to set up his hand.

Game 2 I started fast and in the early game Andrew made a mistake of tapping out and an un countered Karn hit the table. It was over quickly by then.

Game 3 was pretty much the same. I dropped a workshop but Andrew spiked it again, form there he was able to limit my mana production and squeeze out the third victory.

2-2
Round 5
Me vs Brian playing Sligh
This was the final round before the finals with a win I would have been 1 point shy of the top 8, and would have knocked Brian out of the top 8. He asked if I wanted to draw, but I decided to make him play for it (already knowing that I would let him win)

Game 1
Land Eq's evade me, but we are both going strong through the game. He managed to burn the karns before they could do signifigant damage and prevailed with the burn.

Game 2
This game was also a race, but the sideboarded COP red's came out when I was near the end. The mirror followed and soon I swapped for fun and fireballed him.

The final game I started out with a very quick start. I dropped most of my hand, followed by a second turn twister which I proceeded to take on a quick advantage. At one point I had the land eq in play and the geddon in my hand but chose to wheel, because with the land lock Brian would not have been able to win. I tried to stretch the game to the time limit but he snuck a fireblast by the cop red one turn.

Overall not a bad showing for my deck, in reality I went 3-1, I was pretty sure that if I showed earlier I would have been in the T8. I didn't follow who went on to win, I just know that after letting Brian in, he got 4th.

Of course, showing some great BDominia Team love, Keith shows up just in time to ruin my chances of winning a Mox. If it weren't for him I could have drawn into top 8 instead of losing to a Meekstone (opponent at 4, 1 card in hand, Masticore in play Tapped).

On another note, Land Equilibrium is a far more powerful card than most people give it credit (well, its never really mention it). Coming down quickly it can wreck any opponent like a B2B wrecks Keeper, except worse. Having no Moxen, I was forced to concede and no land game 1, and game 2 he Memory Jarred twice and never once did I find one of my Dodecapods to drop into play (well, except the one sitting in my original hand).

I learned about the tournament the week before and would have been in attendance had I known how to get there. Ah well...

Which kind of mulligan was in use?

By ctthespian on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 - 08:10 am:

Paris, I only had to paris twice, once to 6 and the other to 5 and I won both of those games I believe.

This reminds me of Zak Dolan's old deck where he only played like 17 land and the Sol/Lotus/Moxxen for mana sources with Stasis and such. Makes me wonder if a deck like this with fewer mana sources is really viable now, given the general Control atmosphere of T1 these days.

If you can succesfully drop Land-Eq early every game, it's a machine.

Why not run 3-4 MD Land-Eq's? And have you ever run into problems with misdirection on Fireballs? I see too much blue in my area to even consider fireball. The Torch lights the way, or I result to useing Rocket Launchers. You gotta remember, they can still FoW/Mis-D under a Land-Eq.

And do you think Juggernaught is better than Su-Chi? And why? I find a 4/4 far more usefull than a 5/3. Sligh rapes him, or a simple chump block. And he has to attack every turn, reguardless. Not to mention Su-Chi turns into 4 colorless mana when it bites the dust.

And I still can't belive your deck runs off of 6 lands. I don't think any other deck can survive off that.

I totally don't get how you see blue mana reliably. In fact how do you ever cast anyhting like Abyss, etc. in time against speedy agro decks?

I also don't get what you plan to do if the opponent has a FoW in their hand on turn 1. This isn't criticism yet...I really just don't see how this could work. I'd think you'd want to run pitch counters of your own.
