In my most improbable match loss to date, I was defeated by BYE in a harrowing three hour showdown.
Game 1:
5 PM. I am feeling good. BYE is playing suiblack with no jewelry and no wastelands, which I autowin against with Stacker. Game 1 I do just what I'm supposed to do, though it takes longer than I expect, due to my having to race the recovery from a turn 2 mindtwist and the presence of Null Rod. Nevertheless, I pull out two Welder's, and though one get's Edicted, the other stays. Then I yank Kr4n out of the grave, burn out his hyppie, pull out another large artifact beast and win. Mise.
Game 2:
This game was just wrong. I open a workshop, a mox, a welder and some extra land. I figure, okay, I'll almost certainly draw a large artifact in a turn or two, and that should take care of things. Heh. No. I manage to draw every single burn spell in my deck, and kill a lot of cards that way, but after that all I find is land. Bizarrely, appr has shuffled all of my artifacts onto the bottom of my deck. And he gets out an umpteenth creature, which I can't kill, and I lose.
Game 3:
Okay, no sweat. Nothing as incredibly improbable as game 2 is going to happen again, and I'll be more careful with my opening hand. Actually, that's wrong; I am sweating. A lot. It's not that warm in here. I look at my opening and notice that the cards are sort of spinning around and changing colors. This is particularly odd since I'm playing on appr. I rub my eyes a bit and note that someone has placed a small plastic rod under my tongue. I peer down the end of it and see a red mark stretching up to a label that says "102." This is not tech.
I try really hard to focus on the game. This is an aggressive deck, it shouldn't take that long. Except the net connection has gone to crap and we're pinging about 7 sec each. I don't remember much of it, except that my life total was sort of gradually decreasing. I think I forgot to block a few turns. As I'm about to pass out, I attempt to concede, but I've already lost and my opp has actually disconnected. I wake up a few hours later and eat a sandwich.
