Once again Lam won the Type 1 tournament with a mono-blue deck.

I played an untuned Phid deck that Leon put together an hour before the tournament. I lost two very close matches -

one was to an Illusions when I failed to draw a counter in game three off eight Phid cards and sfive draws and had my Capsize eventually countered instead. Brutal.
The Illusions deck was an Oath deck that used the side to transform it. Very original.

the second was a mirror match where topdecking decided the issue.

Overall, I must say that Phid is far better than Standstill. I never got to test the deck enough but after palying it, i would do this:

Tournament Deck

18 Island
4 Wasteland
Strip Mine
Mox Sapphire
Black Lotus
Sol Ring
LoA

Soothsaying
Merchant Scroll
Ancestral Recall
Fact or Fiction

4 Counterspell
4 Mana Drain
4 FoW
3 Misdirection
Annul
Forbid

Timewalk

3 Powder Keg
2 Nevinyrral's Disk

4 Ophidian
3 Morphling

SB:
4 BeB
4 Psionic Blast
3 B2B
3 Legacy's Allure
Annul

Any fine tuning would be helpful as I've given up entirely on Standstill.

As a side the tournaments here in TO are great and I encourage all Type 1 players to join us for the next go-around.

Ok, i know im one to talk cuz he beat me both times we faced, but how in the hell does Mal win EVERY single tourney. And with monoU on top of it! No disrespect inteded, but without Abyss i would have waxed him in the finals, i would like to know how he beats Suicide without Abyss.

Get this. His only loss was to an Underworld Dreams deck :)

When I left midway through the tourney I bid everyone: "May you topdeck like Lam," for a reason.

There was no SuiBlack this tourney, just one NecroVoid deck.

So FeverDog, we needed your Sui to show up and you might have beaten him this time (with no Abyss) in the finals. Tourney #2 he should have lost to Fire/Ice deck in the finals, except for his topdecking.

There were three Fire-Ice variants at tourney #3 which I figured would eat him alive if no one else did.

My Stompy deck got Kegged at least 5 times, Balanced once, and Moated once in 5 games. Uber-bad matchups.

I could scarcely believe Paul's misfortune when I saw his mono-U die to Trix with two active Phids out for awhile.

I am ther worst topdecker in the world. I need an uber-redundant deck - maybe i should play Sligh... ahhhhhh....

Tournaments in Toronto are hereafter named Lambs Folly ...

Lam keeps winning because he has never had to face down TN :)

I believe that was my fault :)

its amazing how my deck does not lose to SUi-Black. As stated, my only loss was to a Black deck, which was Pox and had some Sui-Black in it, not very different from Suic, it had Negators, Hyppies and Pox. I lost to a 1st turn Dreams, then again to a Will, but i met up with him again in the semi-finals, and redeemed myself by beating him 2-0. My Mono-U deck just goes crazy sometimes, with the card advantage, via ancestral, stroke and opportunity, and sometimes Tef's Response.
In the finals, i faced Marco, who played a U-r deck, which was almost the same one that i faced last finals. I pretty much know the deck inside out, becuase i built one for my friend, Shawn, who manage to come in 3rd. Props to him. Anyways, vs Marco, the first game was Topdecks, i mean, his Fire/Ice were useless, only good vs my factories, but i just made sure i had 2 out to pump. 2nd game was him not drawing anything good, and i was Topdecking like a Maniac. For example, i was holding Drain, and he casted Ophidian, which i drained, then TDed a Morphling, and won. I would really like to try other decks, but until my Deck is heavily Meta-gamed against, i see no reason to change it. Why fix something thats not broken, but my
Mono-U IS BROKEN.

Mal, what is your Mono-U decklist?

Oppertunity is (IMO) a potentially good card, not as good as ForF, but hey, you can only ask for so much.

i could never fit oppertunity into my mono blue, but want to see how you got it to fit.

Lam,

I still say that your lone Opportunity should be a restricted Braingeyser. The only time Braingeyser is worse is in the mid-to-late-game control mirror match. Otherwise it is always better. Why? It is a Mana Drain sink beyond most.

But, hey you always win and I rarely do.

Lam just doesnt run enough card drawing overall as i remember, of course that only matters when you dont draw your Library ever game.
