These Q's are mainly directed at Triple S (Sssmwc). Sorry, dude. Your real name slips my mind... anyway:
1. How do you sideboard against mono blue?
2. How's your matchup against Forbiddian?
3. Any tips on how you play the matchup? 'cause in testing, I've been getting terrible results.
4. Back to Basics: how to play against/around this card. Is 4 REB + Aura Fracture in the board good enough?
Mainly at Sssmwc (cause he made the deck after all), but anyone feel free to chime in an help a badplayer beat mono-u. :-D
From what I understand, a lot of it is about Welder.
Well, I've played about 8-10 matches against Forbiddian, and I must be doing something wrong or Forbiddian just owns this match up. I've lost all the matches 2-0 playing Shane's decklist from his most recent post.
Oftentimes, Welder either never got into play or was blown up (keg/BEBs) before he became relevant.
4 REB and Aura Fracture also doesn't seem enough to stop the inevitable BtB from hitting play and owning.
Help me, I don't stink this much even when I try playing Keeper! ;)
Here's the Forbiddian decklist I use as a test deck:

4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
4 Mana Leak
3 Misdirection

4 Powder Keg

1 Merchant Scroll
1 Time Walk

4 Back to Basics
3 Blue Elemental Blast

2 Nevinyrral's Disk
1 Capsize
1 Timetwister
Triple S, if your still around, It'd be great if you could give me some advice on how you play this match up.
I'm pretty sure there is no Mono-Blue/BBS/Ophidian/Gayest deck ever anywhere near richmondcomix.
Thank you.
I appreciate that though it sure doesn't help me much.
We have a Merfolk deck that is really successful at comix (you might be able to search for it here under gay merfolk) but mono U has never been played at comix so I have no testing results against it. I would think the welder would own the match up since (barring fow) it would get in under the counters and could start playing tricks w/ the mono u player's kegs. fow would be the key to the match up.
Mono-U can be brutal in this match up if The Funker gets off to a slow start (no early welder, slow mana development). I've tested quite a bit, and I agree that Welder tends to be the swing card. It's pretty tough getting him in past turns 1-2 however, as counters reach critical mass, and sideboarded BEB/Hydros make things even worse.
I've also found it difficult to deal with Back to Basics with just 4 REB and Aura Fracture. Many games end with disgusting countering followed by BtB when I'm practically tapped out.
I've also found it hard to get rid of Phids and as soon as they hit, they own, with no spot removal main and Fire dead against them. Often, it's the Phids sneaking in early that sends games crashing all to hell, as I can't keep up with the card advantage. In one game, I got out a turn 1 Welder and my opponent answered with a turn 1 Phid, and he was able to amass enough counters to counter every artifact I cast, until he eventually dropped Morph for the win. Sickening.
I hope you have better experience testing this match up, and I will continue testing and try a few modification I've been waiting to test. Thanks for your feedback.
