some help with Nether Void

Beyond Dominia: The Type One Magic Mill: some help with Nether Void

By Milton (Milton) on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 - 06:18 pm:

I have some questions here about Nether Void. Please don't tell me to read the Primer. It's old.

These questions are for an unknown metagame: GenCon.

So far, I understand that these cards are necessary:
4 Sinkhole
4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
3 Nethervoid

1 Demonic Tutor

As for the rest, that's where I have some questions.

1) What is the appropriate mana base? What is the appropriate mix of Mishra's, Wastelands or Ports. (I know you can't do all three, but give me some variations of the mana base).

2) Shade is good. Is Hypnotic Specter still good? Is Shade even that good with Fire/Ice running rampant? What are some good creature options. Also, what is a good number of creatures.

3) Cursed Scroll? Why or why not.

4) What about Skeltal Scrying? I haven't tried it yet.

5) Vampiric Tutor?

Thank You.

Im not a Void expert but here are my opinions:

1- I believe 29 mana sources including Dark Rituals is about right. I like running Wastes and Mishras personally but the concensus is that Ports are better than Mishras for this deck.

2- 8 critters is the right number, Negators are a must so you have to decide whether you like Shades better than Hippies. I would go with Hippies personally but its a tough call.

3- No Scroll, ever. Once you drop a Void your hand will fill up and will render Scroll completely useless. Run Kegs instead, they are better for creature control anyway.

4- Not sure, never tried it.

5- I believe Vamp can work in Void because tutoring is more important than in Suicide, however i dont think its necessary.

1- Most people like about 28-30 with Rits. 4 Wastes, no question. Ports vs Mishra's is all about wether you see more control or aggro. I personally prefer Mishra's.

2- Negators are a must in a control environment. Everywhere else, I'd go with 4 Hyppie 4 Shade.

3- Scroll really isn't a good plan. As he said, Kegs are DEFINATELY A MUST.

4- Nor have I.

5- I like Vamp in Void. Gets you a Void, Necro (some versions), Yawgmoth's Win, or that critter you need to seal the game.

Scrying and Mind Twist are usually left out of Void, as post-Void they become rather unusable.

1- I would say 29 or 30 with Rits. 4 Wastes for sure. Ports vs Mishra's is all about wether you see more control or aggro. I personally prefer Wastes and Ports.

2- I use 4 Hyppie's and 4 Shades.

3- Scroll doesn't work very well in Void. Kegs are great for creature control. Mutilate is also fun to use for pure creature kill, although more of a "I like ugly artwork card".

4- Never really thought it was good in Void.

5- I enjoy Vamp to grab a Void or Shade to lock the game or find a kill condition.

How about adding the one Demonic Consultation?
