I would like a name for this place, since people are beginning guilds we need somewhere to put them.
My Guild, the Soldevi guild is located in the largest City on the world, the meeting place and hub of the mill, yet it hasnt a name yet, and id like to stop calling it 'Capitol City'.

My personal favorites so far are Erehwon for the world name (nowhere backwards.. i know its kinda corny but i like it)
and Maxx's suggestion for the Capital: Spyre
When i think of the name Spyre for the Capital, i imagine a large city surrounding a great tower. The tower would have 4 smaller towers around it, and each would represent one of the major, political guilds that control the city. With the center tower being the current controller.
Soldevi guild would be one of the smaller towers which would also mark the location of the section called 'clockwork city', a sprawl of factories and workshops where all of the cities tools and inventions are created, and the place which causes the constant smoke in the sky and ever-present fog. The soldevi guild represents the builders and inventers (carpenters etc..)
The other political guilds have not been established.
What do you think of the idea above for the main city.
I think the name Spyre has alot of merit, and invokes some cool ideas.
Go Spyre as the Capitol City. But Erehwon? I don't like it if I can't pronounce it. How about we dig into our past and we find France's old name, Gaul. I alwaysed like that name. It's easy to pronouce compared to Erehwon(Sounds like a Chinese/Arabic/German all mixed into one!)

How about Noitacinrofilakia (noit-a-sin-in-ro-fill-ak-ia) for the world name.

Those are some good names (lotta repeats however). And some could definetely be used in some areas. Khulan and Khuzur sound like a pair of arabian styled cities.
The name Spyre for the major city seems to be gaining alot of support, in this and other threads. Objections to the name should be made soon.
i disagree with the pronunciation guide thing...half the names in Magic noone is really sure how to pronounce.
so, you are saying that you would prefer that we have unpronounceable names.
I am just thinking of the name of the world, and of the major town... you can name your character QXYZE#$%$#23z for all i care, but the main places should be slightly more simple. Thats all im saying.
Ack. I've been out for a while. Somebody decided that a physical city should be the "hub" of the mill? Well, I imagine the largest city in the world would indeed function as some type of hub as it would be a major population center, but I still liked the idea of the extraplanar non-city hub thing for guilds. Didn't know if everybody had dropped that idea or what.
Well, the way that things are shaping up currently seems to lean more towards a real world, with a capitol city, so far called the Spyre. To the south is a land of dwarves (started by Burn), and on yet another boarder is the land of Tar Valon (started by Gaeanewt), the aelfin land.
However, it could be made so that Spyre is a city similar to Sigil from planescape, in that it is a pathway to other planes. Thus it would fit the mold of an extraplanar meeting place, while still fitting into the land it physically exists on. We are always ready to change what we have so far. Since its your mill you can feel free to change things around.. nothing that has been done so far cant be undone.
and the land of the drow, if ETP doeznt object, is the ancient soldevian city under spyre. i can see some nice RPing from that.
that sounds good to me.. i have a feeling a few evil denizens will be using those ruins, and a drow kingdom which extends into the Khalad-Khuzir region is a interesting idea.

No pronunciation guides? oh well. I didn't think that my name neccessarily needed a pronunciation guide (it's pronounced how it's spelled), I was just trying to be kind. But for the sake of peace of mind, how about Sellioj? Or Varædelia?
how about merenthar? i was generating away on my name gen, and this one just stood out, if its not the common speach name for the world, then its the dwarven way of saying it. or even both.
Burn:IMHO, creating "secret" name for your own race is great RPing wise 8)

I throw my vote at Somnium for the name of the world.. object quickly or im gonna start getting people to call it that from now on.

I thought of the name Phaema. I took it from another random storyline that no one here has ever seen (because despite all of the development I put into it, it sucked). Phaema is an amalgam of letters from my brother's name, PHilip MichAEl MontAnez. Phaema. It's just one more example of how pervasive my influence into the RPM I feel seeped in, and one more reason I would like to retire it.

No I don't because I know no one else will. So I guess Somnium is fine.
