Beyond Dominia: 3rd War Mill Planning Board: Approaching rulessystems WARning WARning WARning...

By Wicked darkman on Tuesday, July 03, 2001 - 04:03 am:

I once read about a fascinating roleplayingsystem in which players where higher gods in a universe, it was a diceless roleplayingsystem and I simply loved the concept...

I got inspired from that rpgsystem to post these following BASIC rules...

Players build a character using xx points...

The points can be used at the following characteristics...

ATTACKSPEED.
MAGUSPOINTS.
WARRIORPOINTS.
MANIPULATORPOINTS.
THINKERPOINTS.

Attackspeed defines how fast the character reacts, if two persons have a conflict in which they try to perform an action the one with highest attackspeed succedes first if the action is lethal the other part cannot fullfill his/her own action...

A person with maguspoints will always attack first if the other has lower maguspoints, regardless of attackspeed...

Maguspoints describes how powerfull a persons magical abilities are, If one person creates an effect only someone with equal or higher maguspoints can undo or change the effect...

Warriorpoints tells how well a person battles with any object (or no object at all) using magical weapons will not disenable the maguspoints of another persons abilities.

This means that noone can create an item that shuts down wizards and the like, however the item may be created to destroy another magical item.

If a person with 3 maguspoints create 3 orcs and another person with 3 points create a magical sword and gives it to a third character the orcs and the sword will destroy each other, if the sword was made by one with 4 maguspoints it would slay the orcs if the weilder wanted it too...

Manipulatorpoints is used in a third way, no person can attack one with higher manipulatorpoints (equal persons may battle) but a higher manipulator may attack the other way around, the attacked person can not retaliate even if the attack is obviosly done by the manipulator.

Thinkerpoints is the countering of manipulation.
no manipulater can touch this person if the persons thinkerpoints are equal to or higher than the manipulaterpoints...

Killing a person gives means the loss of 3 points from a chosen stat (the killer is the one losing points, the other has to reenter a character with the original amount of points)

Destroying another persons actions gives 1 storypoints.

10 storypoints may be used to raise one of the five stats...

Only problem with this system is that someone has to keep track on the points and abilities and items people gain during the game...

When a writer writes a story his/her stats represents the author not neccessary a single person...

A writer may use the stats on a group, team or army as fit but as a single organism so If a writer wants to feature the phyrexian horde the entire horde may be defeated by a single figure like conan the librarian or ghandi the archmage...

The points lost when killing should keep people from "off-ing" each other to much...

Following the attacksystem the active writer in a conflict is the one with the stats high enough to start the conflict since lowlife cannot initiate actions...

During each post a writer should write his/her stats so that players can track each others progress and know whom to interact with and whom they cannot touch...

Hope it can be of any use...

finally, WD contributes....

the only thing about this is that we wnt to steer away from stats. As for the killing thing, when someone wants their character to be killed, he will be killed. This may let people make their characters live 294279 years, but shadow is probably gonna play god and just throw a lightning bolt down on that 500 year old dwarf.

By WD on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 03:09 am:

Think of it this way, a single writer could write about several characters and kill them of as fit for his own story, but when it comes to interaction with other writers spheres the stats are there for powermeasure, its a controlsystem as to whom will be the winner in a given combat, this way the best writer does not supercede mediocre players...

If for example a writer created something like the weatherlight team he/she would be in control of their entire fate.

The weatherlight team is quite a mix an very versatile at magic intelligence and combat, but put up against the planeswalkerteam urza has assembled it might loose, now urza loves to manipulate and uses magic towards that goal, a writer using urza as his main character is likely to spend points on these two qualities, but if urza is rather intelligent or good in combat remains to be seen...

Burn, generally I just add a few oppinions and let the mill live its own life but I loved the chaos spawned during the warperiod...

Perhaps its a youth/elder concept a young mill is violent and unstable, an elder mill is stable and calm.

Now if you got wild blood in your veins calm and stable is a NOT...

My initial feelings about this mill at any time is KEEP IT YOUNG FOREVER, it should always be changed but it should be a very fast process not allowing it to settle down and die off...

well the only problem with your stats that i see is if someone starts powergaming, then we get the same problems dnd has while having the problems the RPM has. Imagine someone abusing this using the immortal high elf his character is 10000 years old, and no one can do anything to hurt him, he just roams the world freely, doing what he pleases screwing others storylines, etc. but because hes got so many points, no one can stop him. well, maybe thats what shadow will be here for. but setting limits like that can hurt the RPing. If were gonna use stats, we'd have to go all out and use dnd's so that younger guy does have a chance against an immortal 10000 year old high elf.

i agree with you on one point though, as long as this mill stays young, its gonna be fun and never run out of ideas, so once it starts getting stagnant, we need to change something to attract more people. and advertising wouldnt be a bad idea.

How about this......

Each player gets 90 points to distribute. In the game the mod could be like a planeswalker and have 900 points, but he/she must use them to keep people from totally dominating the game.
There can be 5 classes. Human warrior, elf warrior, human mage, elf mage, and druid. Druids are a mix between mage and warrior. Human warriors are better than elf warriors, but elf warriors have access to bows and can move through forests. Elf mages are stronger than human mages, but human mages can travel over mountains and have pikes. Druids are the moderation of all these and can only move over grasslands and are armed with short swords. At the beginning of the game you pick one and distribute your points. We can have a map and each player is alotted a certain amount of territory, leaving some territory neutral for new players. You must declare an attack against the other player's territory. If he does not respond in 48 hours you gain control of half his territory. If he responds and is defeated his is banished to the neutral territory and you take command of his territory. If he wins, you are banished and he gets your territory.
You may ally with another player. When you are allied with a player it is a promise not to attack him. If you attack him regardless, your stats are at half strength for the battle.
When you defeat a player you gain 10 points to distribute and he loses 10 from the stats of his choice.
The game should be turn-based. The mod will randomly decide turns and newbies will be added at the end of the list as they come. If you want to change your stats you may skip your turn to do so. During your turn you may attack until defeated and banished or until you decide to stop.

Check them out, read them over, and decide if they work for you.

I think this forum is going for a more interactive-story telling game.

By ETP on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 03:42 pm:

Yeah, this forum is not about 'winning' its a storytelling forum. If you wanna win, go play 'Hungry, Hungry Hippos'.

By Burn, the Keeper of the Flame (Fereno) on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 07:00 pm:

By Jordan Planeswalker on Friday, July 06, 2001 - 12:57 pm:

I figured you already had the dwarves figured out. Jeez, I'm going back to Phyrexia.

By Burn, the Keeper of the Flame (Fereno) on Friday, July 06, 2001 - 01:59 pm:

dont take that he wrong way, its hrd to show sarcasm over the internet, but were pretty much set on interactive storytelling(only thing set in stone) but we dont want to lose a possible RPer...so screw phyrexia...stay here at somnium.
