How about this?

Beyond Dominia: 3rd War Mill Planning Board: How about this?

If I acted as a sort of controlling power that kept the guilds to their contract, maybe I could do other stuff as well.

The image I have in mind is a clan of followers (probably no real people, unless they really wanted to or something) that knows the secrets of communication with their "God." Clan and God would both be sort of like "True Neutrals" in D&D, that is, they try to keep things balanced in whatever way they can.

Perhaps, in one act, this deity created the extradimensional meeting hall thing, and put in place a set of rules for all who would use it. Perhaps if there were a significant enough incentive for a guild to use the hall, then the rules could incorporate whatever rules we want in place for keeping guild conflict from erupting into pure chaos.

If the world started to fall deeply into the hands of chaos or law (or if the mill started to get boring, or to stagnate), then perhaps this deity could do something extreme to alter the situation. Probably not something direct, like killing people, but something more subtle such as the introduction of some new thing or element in the world which would alter the status quo (ya know, like an interdimensional meeting hall).

Sound like an idea?

well, in DnD True Neutrals also play a role in the total effect of the game, especially in the Planescape setting where you get an entire race of extradimensionals determined to keep the Balance.
But sure why not, a TN God which created the place and if things go extreme subtly tries to restore the balance.

Hmmm... and this would be a clan of overzealous mods?

I love the idea.

lol rakso.....now i wanna be a mod.....

shadow, you just described what i want for the new mill, and i like how the meeting hall works now. perfecto.

Sounds cool, but I think you should lend your RP'ing skillz to the new mill as a player character too, if at all possible. :)

who says he has to limit the RPing of this god to rejuvenating the mill etc... and id like to have a character in the clan...but before i jump in with one, describe the clan little bit, give me a lil idea of if theyre like a barbaric type or like monks etc...or do you really care shadow? i could come up with something pretty good if i put my mind to it.

also, is there only gonna be one "portal" to this hall? or will they be scattered around?

By Shadow (Shadow) on Saturday, July 07, 2001 - 07:05 pm:

Oh, I'll be involved as a "PC" (I hate to use D&D terms, but they're reasonably common ground) one way or another.

I imagine the portals being scattered around; maybe each affiliated guild "owns" one.

I imagine the clan being very secretive (sort of like I was in the RPM, if any of you ever watched my 'Shadow' character do anything). But they'd be more like monks than barbarians.

By Burn, the Keeper of the Flame (Fereno) on Saturday, July 07, 2001 - 07:53 pm:

and perhaps theres some lost portals, like in the middle of the desert theres one, and maybe deep under Khalud-Khuzir theres another, stuff like that.

i think i have something to contribute to the clan's ideals(for lack of a better word....at least one that i couldnt think of) they are most of the very few scattered around somnium that know this: if one type of mana was to be eradicated, truly destroyed, then all mana would cease to exist, along with mana itself. The clan was created by (whats the gods name) because at various times in history of different worlds he/she has overseen, one type of mana has succeeded or at least come close to destroying another type of mana on that world, and it caused so much utter chaos, that the world eventually was destroyed. He fears that somnium's creatures will attempt to do the same, so he set up this clan upon creation of the world to combat the domination of other types of mana.

i just threw something up there, its up to you, shadow, whether or not you use it, but it gives a little back history and reasoning. i know i forgot to mention the "meeting place" but oh well, i doubt that this will be used word for word if at all.

How about the portals are immovable, perhaps they can't be touched by magic. I just thought of something. Okay, here goes. The portals are just easy access to this other world. There are people who can access this world, but they are extremely rare, whenever they want once they've taught themselves. And everyone else just does it at random points, for example I fall asleep and I wake up in this extraplanar area. Then after a short time you go back to the real world. The portals are only the easy way to get there and back.

No, the portals are just going to go to the extraplanar place. We've pretty much decided multiple worlds would make things way to complicated.

That's what I said. The people can access the other world a.k.a. The extraplanar place
