Hi. I play type 1 pox, but I'm playing in a type 1.5 tournament in a couple of weeks and was wondering what people think of this version:

4 Pox
4 The Rack
4 Dark Ritual
4 Cursed Scroll
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Duress
4 Sinkhole
4 Steel Golem
3 Funeral Charm
3 Spinning Darkness
1 Kaevek's Spite
2 Charcoal Diamond

12 Swamp
4 Mishra's Factory
4 Scrubland

Sideboard (still under construction)
4 Phyrexian Negator
4 Planar Void
4 Dystopia
1 Ivory Mask
2 Seal of Cleansing

Why does everyone play with sinkholes? I feel they do not fit in a discard deck. What about adding creatures like chmeric idols and nether spirits?

By Burning Ice, the Elementalist (Burningice) on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 - 03:08 am:

I play with them because I don't see Pox as a discard deck. I see Pox as a diruption deck. Besides, I'm not playing with Wastelands or Strip Mine. Sinkhole does the job.

About Chimeric Idols, I don't like them, as they have no synergy with Mishra's Factories.

About Nether Spirits, they're alright, but Spinning Darkness is the only way to get rid of them if they're in the graveyard now that I can't use Yawgmoth's Will. But I will think about them.

By Alphastorm, the Aspiring Tactician (Alphastorm) on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 - 04:51 am:

good point about the chemeric idols. The reason I suggested them was because I never had any Mishra's Factories in my deck. I can see how strong the factories are in this deck. I still think it would be good to add a few more creatures. Maybe take out a steel golem and 2 sinkholes for 3 nether spirits?

By Burning Ice, the Elementalist (Burningice) on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 - 09:18 pm:

That's the thing, I rarely kill with the creatures, and more with The Rack and the scrolls. So 4 creatures is enough. Besides, the 4 Sinkholes are necessairy for enough disruption. After all, going first, laying a swamp, having your opponent go, and then playing a swamp, Ritual, Sinkhole, Hymn is great :).

But do you think the Funeral Charms fit here? And how does the sideboard look?

By Le_Lepreux, the Plaguelord (Le_lepreux) on Thursday, January 25, 2001 - 02:50 pm:

Pretty strong maindeck, I really love the Kaervek's Spite... :o)

The only problem I saw is your sideboard. The WW for casting Ivory Mask is way too difficult to get. Could you please tell me in which match-up it's necessary?

And I prefer Tormod's crypt to Planar Void cause this won't screw your spinning darkness against Rec/Sur...

Yeah, that's a good point. (About the Planar Voids). So what should I put instead? I think 2 Tormod's Crypts is enough. The Ivory Mask is there just in case, but the 2 white does suck. Mostly against sligh, which I feel is Pox's worst matchup.

What do you suggest instead?

By Le_Lepreux, the Plaguelord (Le_lepreux) on Thursday, January 25, 2001 - 07:15 pm:

You just need 1 more Funeral charm in your side to easily beat sligh. Just test a lot against sligh and you'll found that that this is a good matchup for you.

In the Planar void slot, you have two choices: Tormod's crypt or Ebony Charm.

So how about this for a sideboard?

4 Phyrexian Negator
2 Seal of Cleansing
4 Dystopia
1 Funeral Charm
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Diabolic Edict

By Le_Lepreux, the Plaguelord (Le_lepreux) on Thursday, January 25, 2001 - 11:14 pm:

This all depend of your metagame but this sound pretty good!

By the way, where is the tourney?

Is the white really necessary since you lost balance for 1.5? I see a total of 2 white cards. I have thought about the chemeric idols and I feel they are still better than the steel golems here. I would take out the Mishras and replace them with wastelands. Like you said 4 creatures is enough and Wastelands very good in 1.5. They also, fit nicely into a disruption deck. :) I just love idols and nether spirits because they work so well with pox. It's like a combo. Just my two cents. Overall, nice deck!

By Alphastorm, the Aspiring Tactician (Alphastorm) on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 12:10 am:

I almost forgot, yes! 3 funeral charms are the perfect number for this deck.

By Burning Ice, the Elementalist (Burningice) on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 06:34 am:

Le_Lepreux: it's a little thing I'm running for me and my friends. AFAIK there will be a good white weenie, a couple big creature green/white decks, a mercenary deck, and some others. But I don't know what half the people are playing so I can't really sideboard for that.

Alphastorm: I know, but most of the people playing don't really play with that many non basics or wastelands (wastes are really hard to find for some reason), so it's not a big deal.

4x rack
2x juzam djinn

By JF on Monday, January 29, 2001 - 03:51 pm:

Hi.
Instead of Kaervek's Spite I often used Underworld Dreams with high success.
Especially with a second Dreams and two or three Bottomless Pit from the SB in the second duel. During topdeck mode the Dreams works wonder!

I prefer Bottomless Pit in the SB before Negator (subjective opinion).

Good luck
JF
