Report - Triple Threat (R/W/B ThreeDeuce/Junk/Jank/Rogue aggro-control deck ... is that enough, Rakso?)

Beyond Dominia: The Type 1.5/1.X Magic Mill: Report - Triple Threat (R/W/B ThreeDeuce/Junk/Jank/Rogue aggro-control deck ... is that enough, Rakso?)

The original post was deleted and I do not know why. Rakso, the post was not dead since I promised to add this report for all the guys who helped me with my deck. Did you delete it for it´s subject line ("Triple Threat, need some advice")? Well, the thread was posted before your rage against fuzzy subject lines. Also, my deck is rather rogueish - R/B/W aggro-control, somewhere between Three Deuce, Jank and Junk; I thought it was appropriate to give it my own name (which referres to Three Deuce BTW!). There are much fuzzier subject lines like "FEB", "Just a question for 1.5" or "LLL". What should I have named it to satisfy you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I promised a report on my next tournament/Bundesligaspieltag(League game). It was delayed one week and I finally played it last sunday.
For all who have not read the original thread:

Triple Threat v2.1

4 Mother of Runes
4 Soltari Priest
2 Soltari Visionary
2 Paladin en-Vec
3 Phyrexian Negator

2 Cursed Scroll

4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Incinerate
4 Duress
3 Abolish
4 Demonic Consultation

4 Plateau
4 Scrublands
4 Badlands
4 Plains
2 Swamp
2 Mountain
2 Wasteland
1 City of Traitors
1 Mox Diamond

Sideboard:
4 Seal of Cleansing
4 Pyroblast
4 Honorable Passage
3 Powder Keg

Changes from v2.0:
The two open main slots became Cursed Scrolls and the sideboard slots were filled with the Kegs and Passages.

Opponent 1 (Iwan, playing Counter/Sliver)

First game we both get a good start, he drops Crystaline and Muscle Sliver, I drop Scoll, Mother and Negator. I end up doing more damage and he is forced to double-block the Negator.
The situation: He is at two life with no creatures in play and one card in hand. I have Negator and Scroll with 3 tapped lands, Paladin in my hand, it is his turn. And now he starts the biggest topdeck madness I have ever seen:
He draws a Consultation and consults for Plowshare, me at 22 life. On my turn I choose not to scroll him since I failed 3 times out of 3 so far to scroll for 50% and play the Paladin instead. He counters him. He topdecks a Seal and destroyes my Scroll. I draw and play a Soltari Visionary. He topdecks the Acidic Sliver and nails the Visionary. I draw nothing important and he topdecks Sliver after Sliver, Chrystaline first of course!
Second game he countered/destroyed all three Kegs and rides to victory very quick.

Damn it, this matchup is in my favor 60-40% but he got extremely lucky.

Opponent 2 (? playing Sligh with Gobbo Bombardement and Flunkies)
Game 1 was close as we both race for damage with both sides unable to block. I finally drop a Paladin but it is too late as I am in burn range and well, he burned me out.
After sideboarding 3 Kegs and 4 Passages I run so much hate (+4 Priests,4 Mothers, 2 Paladins,4 Plow, 4 Incinerate and 4 Consults to fetch any of these) that games 2 and 3 were not funny for him. Beating down with proto:red, Duressing and Kegging Scrolls and Passaging Ball Lightnings, that is disgusting. Additionally he was mana flooded on game 3.

Opponent 3 (? playing Trix with Firestorm)
Not much to tell here. He got normal starts and comboed my out twice undisrupted. He was on 2 respectively 5 when Illusions resolved but it was never close. In game 2 I drew none of my 8 sideboard cards nor Consults. Instead I drew 3 Mothers which I had seen none of in all three games vs. Sligh.

Conclusion:
The Kegs solve all problems I could face including Stompy when Trix fades away. Together with the Passages it is very hard to loose 2nd or 3rd game against Sligh (even if he sideboards Anarchy).
I am very confident with the deck besides that I alwys draw very poor against my nemesis (Trix). I would have gone 2-1 if Iwan had left his Ring of Topdeck Level 25 at home.

My new task is to rebuild the deck without Consultations. I will post (probably here) when I have solid decklists.
Thanx to all who supported me and my deck!

Ok, let's say for one moment that you could try it
sans black and substitute versatile cards from Red
and White that do the same thing with maybe one
more Mox Diamond and some Tithes (Please don't get
offended, I'm only making suggestions because I really like the deck...). I would and have used
similar decks in a few tournaments here and there...

Artifact:4
2 Mox Diamond
2 Winter Orb

Red:14
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Incinerate
4 Seal of Fire

White:24
2 Solitari Visionary
2 Paladin En-Vec
4 Solitari Priest
2 White Knight
2 Solitari Monk
4 Armageddon
1 Abolish
1 Seal of Cleansing
2 Sword to Plowshare
4 Tithe

Land:20
4 Wasteland
4 Plateau
2 Undiscovered Paradise
6 Plains
4 Mountain

Sideboard
4 Pyroblast
1 Seal of Cleansing
1 Abolish
4 Price of Progress (One of the more potent sideboard weapons available vs. anything running
too many non-basics (Like Countersliver))
2 Sword to Plowshare
3 Variable Slots...

So that's how I would do the deck. Running two colors makes things a lot easier and you don't
lose much without Black. I hope you like it,
Good luck...

Hmmm... if I did delete it when I cleaned out posts from the bottom a week ago, I think I won't forget what's in this...

Yeah, Deletehead, one of the consultless versions I plan to do is R/W and looks much like yours. But I thought to maindeck those Price of Progress since I will face a lot of Oaths and Slivers. Another variant will add green. Also I am experimenting with Cataclysms ...

I´ll let you know.

By Deletehead on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - 03:10 pm:

Or I guess you could go W/B...

Artifact:6
2 Cursed Scroll
4 Mox Diamond

Black:10
4 Phyrexian Negator
2 Diabolic Edict
4 Duress

White:24
2 Solitari Visionary
2 Paladin En-Vec
4 Solitari Priest
2 White Knight
2 Solitari Monk
4 Sword to Plowshare
2 Seal of Cleansing
4 Armageddon
4 Tithe

Land:20
4 Wasteland
4 Scrubland
2 Gemstone Mine
4 Swamp
6 Plains

Either version could rock. This has considerably
better control...

I don´t think that Negators are the way to go now without combo decks around. Especially not without Mothers.

I started a new thread about the current Triple Threat. It is W/R and looks more and more like Jank now. I would like you to post any ideas regatding my deck that keep the black HERE in this thread and all other suggestions in the new thread ("DECK CLINIC: Extended: new version of Triple Threat"). Thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the first match vs. Countersliver couldn't you have scrolled him in your upkeep with the Paladin in hand before you drew a second card to kill him?

By Puschkin, Defiant Vanguard Against The Phyrexian Invasion (Puschkin) on Sunday, December 30, 2001 - 11:32 am:

I did not state this but Paladin en-Vec was not my only card in hand. I don´t know exactly what I held but the chances of scrolling successfully were 50% at best. I believe I had a land and drew another one.
