I just dont get AK + Intuition "Combo"

Beyond Dominia: The Type 1.5/1.X Magic Mill: I just dont get AK + Intuition "Combo"

Well since the T1 mill is in private mode for an unknown reason at the moment, ill post this here instead, since its extended related too.

Lately, this particular combo, Accumulated Knowledge + Intuition, has gained a lot of popularity, being present in some extended decks and even has been suggested in T1 to replace FOF slots in BBS.

My question is, why everybody`s so willing to run a 2 card, 5 mana "combo" that draw three cards (and MAYBE later 4) when efficiency is preached so much by top players of this forum (even vindicate and recently chainers edict were considered not T1 worthy in the name of this efficiency).

To me, even the crappy card drawing like concentrate would be superior to that "Engine". Hell, even braingeyser is on par in terms of mana efficiency, and its a 1 card "Combo" ;) I know that its a sorcery, but you got the point.

So, can someone explain the point of AK + intuition to me? Am I missing something?

in type 1 it's bad. period. vindicate and chainers edict are both sorcreys. edict has a better alternative, and vindicate usually costs more than what you wanted to kill.

in 1.x, there are no combo engines anymore. that is the closest thing you get to an engine. it's not a very good one compared to necro/replenish/survival, but it's the only one there is. with a medalion, it actually is quite theatening. it takes a turn to draw 7 cards and thin your deck. that should always find you either what you're looking for or a way to get it.

One thing is sapphire medalion. Trick runs medalions to make it's combo (illusions/donate) easier to cast. But that also makes intuition/ak easier to cast as well. Another thing is that you can cast it in pieces. Concentrate has to be cast all at once (and it's a sorcery, which sucks bigtime). You can cast intuition before the end of your opponent's turn, and then ak before the end of his next one. Last, intuition can be good for other things. It can get you that last combo piece you need or the force of will or do some other silly combo thing like fetch squees or calls of the herd or god knows what. And if you draw ak without intuition, you can always cycle it in a pinch (though trick would far rather fetch it's intuition first and get AKs and use the extra AK to draw many more cards).

As for using ak/intuition in t1, that's being suggested mostly for lack of anything better i think. Most control decks demand that their card-drawers be instants, so besides FoF and stroke (restricted) and AK/intuition, there just isn't much--whispers? opportunity?

You are leaving out a few essential components here.

Most decks running intuition/knowledge use not only medallions but multiple merchant scrolls. This means that you are practically assured of the 4 point knowledge as well. Meanwhile, while it requires casting 2 spells, it requires 5 instant speed mana and one card to produce 3 cards without risking misdirection. Concentrate requires main phase mana and is targetted.

In type one, intuition/ak isnt hyped, it has just been suggested as a possible alternative to fill the void left by fact or fiction.

plus intution is a good card on its own without the combo it is played in trix and ocasionaly its good to just get the last combo piece

Anyone tried Trick in 1.5?

AK combo is definitely too slwo in Type I but I never checked 1.5

I ran a donate deck in a type 1.5. Was undefeated in the first three rounds. Mind you, the competition was pretty weak. Mana drain makes this deck very abusive. Draining a spell turn 3 or 4 with combo in hand is auto win.

Drain also lets you put out medallion really quickly, which is also very scary. I often found myself icing land just so i could force a bigger drain when they finally were able to cast something.

Your big fear is duress/hymn/spector, so boarding misdirections and dodecapods makes life easier.
