I read the primer and some posts on the forum to help in it's creation. This one has been designed to be mono-blue. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You forgot the medalions--they are absolutely necessary if you are going to beat beatdown decks. With 4 medalions, you can get away with a bit less land. They have synergy with both your combo and your draw engine. You can get by with fewer bounce spells. 1 Rushing river should be enough for the maindeck. You will merchant scroll for it when it's really needed. Also, you shouldn't need 4 kegs--the point is to try to go off and win, not control your opponent. I might want is a few more counters to protect yourself. Either counterspell or thwart are good. The last thing you want is a morphling or 2 maindeck. If someone stops your combo or gains life, it can be nearly impossible for you to win without an alternate victory condition.

my finkula will smack this deck upside the head and sideways

hahaha

No kegs and no Boomerang. Gaining 20 life is your real defense against other decks. One or maybe two Capsize should do it for board control.

21 land, 4 medallions, 4 Counterspell, 1 Capsize, 1 Morphling and one whatever you think you need. I'd like one more land because I never seem to draw enough but that's just me.

There is always someone who makes a stupid remark, asking for flame war, isn't there? Brian and ATW, thanks for the help. Sapphire Medallions should help quite a bit. I was thinking, with the Sapphire Medallions, Mana Leaks would be better than Counterspells, would you agree?

By Drizzt on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 - 12:00 pm:

No, stay with Counterspell. I think 24 land is excessive, especially with all your card drawing. What about slipping 1-2 Morphling into the main deck?

Ok, the updated list looks like this:

4 Force of Will (11)
4 Mana Leak
3 Counterspell

4 Illusions of Grandeur (24)
4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Merchant Scroll
4 Brainstorm
4 Intuition
4 Donate

21 Island (25)
4 Sapphire Medallion

I have been thinking about adding 1 counterspell, getting rid of the mana leaks and putting in 2 morphlings. This would leave me with 1 card slot left. Originally I had boomerangs in the deck, not for defense, but rather to kill them quicker by boomeranging the illusions back to my hand. Speaking of which, I was killed by a white weenie deck because it could pay the upkeep for 4 turns and had the time to kill me. If i had one boomerang I would have won the game. Also, I have 4 Mana Drains, would you guys recommend using them instead of counterspells?

By Matt Caplan (Caplan) on Thursday, January 10, 2002 - 01:23 pm:

Yes. Get rid of the Mana Leaks, and put in one more Counterspell and 2 Morphlings. For the last slot, use Capsize - it is Merchant Scroll-fetchable and is helped out greatly by the Medallions.
By the way, Mana Drain isn't legal in extended.

Forgot to mention this is for 1.5. Either way, Capsize is a good idea. With the medallions it becomes a boomerang that I can buyback if I want. Thanks.
