I know I know, who the hell plays RecSur any more? Well, I have a screwed up enough metagame that it probably would work (there’s surprisingly little control and combo in my area - I’m guessing around 3/4ths of the decks in my area are beatdown, 1/4th is control, and combo is almost non-existent - only one person out of a couple dozen that plays combo [Academy]). I’d like to get some advice on it though before I plunk down the money on finishing it off.

// Land
1 Tropical Island
2 Taiga
2 Savannah
2 City of Brass
4 Bayou
9 Forest

// Non-Creature Stuff
3 Recurring Nightmare
4 Survival of the Fittest
4 Duress

// Creatures - Black
1 Krovikan Horror
1 Phyrexian Plaguelord
1 Thrull Surgeon

// Creatures - Blue
1 Tradewind Rider
(could Morphling be added, or would it be too mana intensive?)

// Creatures - Red
1 Squee
1 Avalanche Riders

// Creatures - White
1 Monk Realist
1 Monk Idealist

// Creatures - Green
1 Deranged Hermit
1 Quirion Ranger
1 Uktabi Orangutan
1 Spike Weaver
2 Spike Feeder
4 Wall of Blossoms
4 Wall of Roots
4 Birds of Paradise

// Sideboard
1 Masticore
1 Rootwater Theif
3 City of Solitude
3 Dense Foliage
3 Oath of Ghouls
4 Contamination

I’ve made 3 versions (this one, a Counter-RecSur, and an Everything-But-The-Kitchen Sink-RecSur [Academy Rector version]), but this one seems to be the most consistent. The deck is for both T1 and 1.5 (other than maybe a tutor or so no restricted cards work in it anyway). Thanks for any help.

Morphling is not good in most Survival decks.

I strongly suggest you read JP Meyer's RecSur Primer; it will give you more suggestions than you ever could dream of.

Actually I've read both his primers and Gzeiger's thread in the archives. I don't really see my deck as much worse than those in the primer/thread, or how I could really improve it - but that's the reason why I'm asking for advice.

The deck is quite good, although I would cut the blue and the red entirely (except Squee, which is almost never cast). This is because your mana-base is pretty shaky, and you need to be running on all cylinders.

Wall of Blossoms are also a bit... unnessecary. I would include single copies of Bone Shredder, Spiritmonger and some more Spikes, which helps you tremendously against beatdown. You also get far less manascrewed.
