where's the control? I see creatures, card advantage, and manipulation; but the only cards that effect your opponent in any way are the 4 lyrists, 1 masticore, and 2 stunted growth. I can just imagine you in a match with trick. You open with a couple creatures, setting up a decent clock. He sees that you're g/u and starts to shit a brick. Then you draw massive cards by casting ak after he's intuitioned for and cast his. Then you get an active lyrist going. It looks like he's in a deep, deep hole, but he does manage to scrape together fire, donate, and illusions. The turn before he's dead, he says "Show me a counter in that 7-card hand and I'll scoop," but you don't have one, so he wins.
The moral of the story is that all the card advantage in the world won't help you if your deck doesn't have any cards that you want to draw. Your deck is close enough to the most popular deck of the format (Miracle Gro), that I won't offer you advice to tweak the deck. Just check this list somewhere or go to www.sideboard.com GP coverage to see where you ought to be going with this concept.
Ok.......here is the new Deck List:
Creatures:
4 Elvish Lyrist
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Masticore
Spells:
4 Stunted Growth
4 Carefull Study
4 Grim Monolith
4 Mox Diamond
3 Holistic Wisdom
4 Sleight of Hand
4 Rancor
Lands:
4 Tropical Island
4 Wasteland
3 Treetop Village
3 Forests
3 Ilands
4 Yavimaya Coast
Most games look like this:
1st turn: Forest, Mox Diamond(discarding Treetop V. or Wasteland, Grim Monolith
1st turn opponent: Forest, Birds of Paradise
2nd turn: Tropical Island, Stunted Growth
................
Then sitch to Beatdown Mode with Masticore and lock your opponent by reccuring Stunted Growth...
My badest Matchup is against Heavy Control but if i had once played Stunted Growth it looks bad for him.......
Where is the control?
4 Stunted Growth hardly constitute a control deck.
hint--when we ask "where's the control", we're looking for counterspells of some kind, something that can keep your opponent from sweeping the board clean with a single spell. There's no excuse not to run some kind of countermagic in a blue deck that is trying to control things. Stunted growth is almost never going to resolve unless your opponent is playing something speedy that empties its hand anyway. Masticore is nice against creature decks, but it's awful against control. They don't have critters to ping, and you can't count on a masticore as your win condition in those matchups, and it becomes a big card-suck. I'll repeat from last post--go check out Miracle gro (or even a fish or countersliver deck) to see how aggro-control is supposed to work.
