We have a strong following for 1.5 around here and there are tournaments held just about every Saturday at the local game store. The local metagame seems to be filled up by Blue-based Control decks and Suicide Black decks. I'm trying to hit on something that will be either fast enough to get inside Blue-control's defenses and kill them before they have a chance, or controlling enough to slow down suicide while still having a late game against blue. I pretty much need a deck that will come in swinging against these decks while not turning over and dying against the random scruc decks that the local little kiddies like to play.
Now, I'm more a T1 player myself, so bare with me here, but here are my basic ideas:(in no particular order)

A Stacker-esque type deck with some early acceleration, big artifact beatings and burn spells for controlling Suicide.
A speedy but consistent sligh deck, this is especially nice since Sligh is a non-factor in the local metagame (I'm thinking LG sligh may be the best option if going sligh).

An even faster, though more volitile, Stompy or Slompy style deck.

A bridge/pit style deck to shut down both Blue and Suicide's major damage dealers (morphling and negator respectively).

A UB Control deck with Shadowmages, Hippys and Phids to out card advantage the opponent.

Of course, I'm sure the BD-ers can come up with better options than me. Especially those of you who are familiar with the T1.5 monster. By all means, tell me how to surprise the locals with a deck they never expected.

How does Sligh handle 1.5 blue-based control, post-FoF?

The better decks for 1.5 in this environment are.

1.) Sligh tried and true, you get Lightning bolt, Chain Lightning - enough said.
2.) Survival, their is a reason that Survival of the Fittest is Banned in Extended.
3.) PandaBurst, again another Banning in Extended.
4.) White Wennie Does good, against agro black, and Control (emyrial Armor anyone) + you get land Tax Scroll Rack
5.) I actually play a Junk deck in my 1.5 tourny and do very very well with it (yet to loose a game :)

Good luck

Suicide Black is almost an auto-win for Sligh. Mono-Blue is a bit tougher, but Red Elemental Blasts from the sideboard help tremendously. Sligh is fun to play in a metagame like yours and I think that a classic Sligh with lots of burn and a good sideboard will leave you standing at the top of the rankings.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but new information has surfaced on metagame changes since I've left and I beleive complicates the deck choice process. At this moment the Local metagame is folding out as follows.

Mono-U Control
Discard/Suicide
Control
Sligh
3 deuce

Most likely in that order. At the moment, about 80% of the decks look to be Mono-colored, which means there is little to no non-basic hate in the feild. Since FoF got banned, Sligh made an upsurge and has been well SB-ed against. Below this base of good decks, theres a whole pile of scrubby stuff as well.
With all this in mind, I'm still looking for a good deck for the metagame. Although at the moment, I keep wanting to play stompy, not because it would win, but because the little kiddies around here keep trying their hand at it and it's ALL bad. I don't think they've got the collective card pool in their stompy decks to even build a deck that is capable of goldfishing by turn 7. If nothing else, a turn 3-4 goldfishing stompy deck would at least show them how it's done.
Anyway, what do you think would be the best deck to make an appearance in this metagame?

Dude! Oath... mmmm, oath

Oath could kill. I highly suggest you run it, as nothing else will fit your matchups as well as Oath will. But thats my opinion

You guys forget that enlightened tutor IS BANNED in 1.5 so the maher oath wont work but i suggest running sligh. And survial has alot of problems with deed.
