Artifacts

Alloy Golem
7
A 4/4 is pretty big, and the color tricks are nice with Djinns and stuff. Still, too expensive for the type of deck I like to play.

Chromatic Sphere
8
I really like this, it's a cantrip and it allows more mana efficiency. It can be used to use an ability of an apprentice, even though you aren't playing that color. Cantrip is what makes this card really good.

Juntu Stakes
6
This surprisingly isn't that bad, because it will stop the tappers completely while you can beat down with biggies.

Lotus Gaurdian
6
A lot of people like this, but I don't really. It's just too expensive for me, and I don't like it. No slouch I guess though, see what it does for you.

Phyrexian Altar
1
Not for limited.

Phyrexian Lense
7
I like this, mana acceleration and efficiency for life, which is actually a pretty good trade. Still, not completely reliable.

Planar Portal
9
Even though expensive, it allows you to get an answer for anything, providing it's still in yo8ur library, at instant speed. Go get your bomb!

Power Armor
10
I know it's a high ranking, but it's one of the best artifacts in the set. It allows you to pump any creature you want and pretty much dominate combat.

Sparring Golem
8
Pretty good little guy. He's good in attacking, and he's a creature you can cast if you get color screwed.

Tek
8-10
This guy depends on your colors, but in my opinion, he sucks if you're not playing black and blue. A 4/2 flyer 4 5 is still pretty bad, but it's better than a 5 mana 2 power creature. It gets really good if you get a mountain or plains though.

Tsabo's Web
6
Stops Keldon Necropolis, a card vicous enough that this card is worth taking. Plus it replaces itself. Not bad.

Urza's Filter
1
Sucks.

The Cameo's
6
I don't like them as they're non creature non removal cards, but they're not horrible. I never play them, but they aren't completely horrible. Better if you have Devouring Strossus or Dragon Legends.

The Attendants
7
They're colorless damage, and pretty big. Not slouches. I don't personally like them because they're expensive and they can get disenchanted, but they're not bad. More appealing if you get the dragons for them. Not bad.

Split Cards

Stand/Deliver
6
The abilities aren't that good, but the versatility makes it not bad.

Spite Malice
10
Save your own creatures or kill theirs, the best of the split cards.

Assault Battery
9
The green ability will almost never be used, but either is good. This is a pretty nice card.

Pain/Suffering
5
The worst ability, but it can kill Necropolis or be a nice addition to your discard draft deck.

Wax/Wane
8
Either ability is really nice, and the choice is really good.

Land

Sac lands (Sulfer Vent, Ancient Spring, etc.)
7
I like these. The come into play effect isn't bad in limited, and it helps with mana or rush out something nice. I've gotten 3rd turn Blazing Specter with these, and it's been really helpful.

Archaeological Dig
4
I don't like this at all, sacing lands is bad news in limted, even if it is a cantrip.

Keldon Necropolis
10
One of the best cards for limited play, no other comment.

Tap Duals
7
The mana efficiency is really good, but don't draft these hi, they're not as good as a decent creature or removal spell. If there's nothing else in the pack, take them, if there's a good card, take it instead.

Well there ya go, I'm done with Invasion, I hope I was helpful! I'm going to play Planeshift for a couple weeks and get a feel for it before I post what I think, because a lot of cards powers won't be revealed until later. I agree with Nevyn on escape routes, it will be really good, especially with Tidal Visionary. Draft them while you can, but not more than one or two. Other than that, we'll have to wait and see.

How is it that you don't like alloy golem because of the casting cost and then love planar portal. If you like the quick rush decks, the portal will never help you. It basically takes two turns to tutor for one card that you probably won't be able to play for another turn.

By Nevyn, the Village Idiot (Nevyn) on Friday, February 09, 2001 - 02:10 pm:

Planar portal is a 6, alloy golem is about right, and lotus guardian should be 7 or 8 just for being a 4/4 flyer for colourless mana.

You should have rated tek as a blue/black gold card, thats where he shines.

He ranges from a 5 rating to a 9, depending on your deck.

I don't like casting a creature for 6 mana, or a card that won't swing the game in my favor. With planar portal, you can get the cards you need and if you gave a good board at the time, you can win because of being able to get whatever you need.

A casting cost of 6 is in no way unreasonable in INvasion!
